New Maruti Brezza: Big shoes to fill

The new Brezza SUV has a lot on its plate as it takes over from the outgoing model. With the new SUV, Maruti will aim to repeat the sales success of the original Vitara Brezza that has been a smash hit since 2016. The Vitara Brezza surpassed the 5 lakh sales milestone  in January 2020 and 7 lakh sales milestone in November 2021. And while it switched from a diesel-only to petrol-only model in 2020, sales remained healthy – in FY 2020-’21, Maruti Suzuki sold almost one lakh units of the Brezza in the Indian market.

While the next-gen Brezza is expected to have a lot going for it, the compact SUV segment is filled with newer rivals like the recently updated Kia Sonet as well as the Hyundai Venue, which will see a major mid-cycle update a few weeks before the Brezza launch. There’s also the Tata Nexon to contend with, which is showing strong growth and, in the last financial year, was India’s largest-selling SUV piping the Hyundai Creta

Thus, Maruti is giving the new Brezza virtually everything it has in its arsenal. While based on the current SUV’s Global-C platform, the new Maruti Brezza will have significantly redone styling both outside and inside, along with added tech and features and the more fuel-efficient dual jet K-series engine. A sunroof – one of the many new features – will also be on offer making the Brezza the company’s first locally built model to feature one.
