Citroen has increased the prices of the C3 for the first time since its launch in July this year. Prices for the C3 now start at Rs 5.88 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 8.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

While the base Live variant gets a hike of Rs 17,000, the top-end Feel Turbo sees a Rs 9,000 increase in pricing. Citroen hasn't stated a reason for the price hike, but the carmaker has likely increased them to counter rising input costs. Many manufacturers have increased the prices of their cars in recent times, due to supply chain bottlenecks caused by the shortage of semiconductor chips and the rising cost of raw materials.

Here’s a look at the new prices in comparison to the old ones.

The C3 takes on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. With the new pricing, the Citroen C3 marginally undercuts the Tata Punch by Rs 4,000 and is cheaper than the Renault and Nissan by Rs 11,000 and Rs 9,000, respectively.

    Citroen C3 sales in India

The Citroen C3 is yet to find its feet in India. Going by the sales figures, Citroen sold 550 units of the C3 in its launch month of July and 825 units in August. Its rivals like the Ignis, Punch, Magnite and the Kiger average around 2,000-5,000 units every month. It remains to be seen how buyers will react to the price hike but Citroen is confident that despite the hike, the C3 will sell in good numbers.

Citroen C3: powertrain options, automatic gearbox incoming

The C3 comes with two 1.2-litre petrol engine options: an 82hp, naturally-aspirated petrol and a 110hp, turbo-petrol unit. The former is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the latter comes with a 6-speed manual. There is no automatic gearbox option at the moment, but Citroen plans to offer a 6-speed torque converter automatic in the second half of 2023. The carmaker will also update its petrol engines around the time of the automatic gearbox's launch.

Not sure if price hike is a good decision. Particularly when some must to have features are missing and remaining essentials are offered as accessories like engine guard, rear view camera. Recently I've booked the vehicle, but had to cancel due to un availability of accessories that I have asked for. Surprisingly sales person has no clear understanding when accessories will be available. I also heard that 6 out of 10 cars were facing electrical issues. Hope Citroen is paying attention these challenges. C3 is definitely sounds like a decent car, but problems mentioned above will hamper reputation of Citroen.
