Images of the 2019 facelift for the Tata Tiago have surfaced online, showing that the updated hatchback sports styling changes outside. This new model will also get more safety kit like an airbag and ABS as standard to make it comply with the upcoming norms in July 2019.

The safety norms that are set to come into effect in July 2019 mandate that all cars on sale in India should have safety features such as a driver’s side airbag, ABS, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder and a speed warning system. All variants of the Tiago facelift will get this equipment.  Additionally, the updated car will also see tweaks to its structure in order to clear the upcoming crash test norms that come into effect in October 2019.

The spy images show that the Tata Tiago facelift’s design is more grown up, mirroring its larger hatchback sibling that is scheduled to launch later this year, the 45X. It gets a wider version of Tata’s Humanity line nose and, as the image shows, an orange paint finish on the wing mirrors. While the alloy wheels are the 14-inch ones offered on the higher-spec XZ variant, these could be dummies.

The 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol and 70hp, 1.0-litre diesel engine is expected to continue unchanged, along with the 5-speed manual on both and the 5-speed AMT on the petrol.

Tata’s Tiago has been on sale since 2016, and still wracks up sales numbers for the brand. However, it is now facing all-new rivals in the form of the Hyundai Santro and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and even sees competition from the Datsun Go facelift. The mid-life refresh, which is expected to launch in India before the Hyundai i20 rivalling production-spec Tata 45X does, should help the Indian brand continue its sales high.
