I am a small businessman and currently do not own a bike or a car. I want to buy a scooter with a strong body so that I can ride with a pillion and also carry some luggage or bags on the floorboard. Is the TVS Jupiter 115cc or 125cc a good choice, or should I consider another brand or model? Please suggest. I am 6 feet tall and well built, so height is not a problem. My budget is ₹1 to ₹1.25 lakh. Thank you.

The TVS Jupiter - whether it's the 113cc or the 125cc model - is a proven product which is spacious and comfortable for larger adults, so that is a good place to start. We would also recommend you take a look at the Suzuki Access, as that is also a reliable, comfortable, practical and fuel-efficient machine. A test ride will help you decide between the two.

Which scooter would you recommend for my daily usage of around 12-15km within Kochi city limits? There could also be a fortnightly ride of more than 20-25km. I am open to ICE, EV or hybrid options.

Since your daily usage is limited, you can look at electric scooters if you have the facility to charge it at your residence. Among all the options available, we would recommend taking a look at the Ather Rizta, Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube models that fit within your budget.
If you want to stick with an ICE scooter, our current top picks would be the Honda Activa 110 / 125, TVS Jupiter 110 / 125 and the Suzuki Access 125. Do take a test ride of all shortlisted options to see which one suits you best.

I have a 2012 Honda Activa that’s nearing re-passing. It still runs well mechanically, though the exterior has issues. I don’t want to sell it, but safety for my wife is a concern. Given its reliability, I’m unsure which scooter can match it. Please suggest the best alternatives.

In the family scooter space, our current favourites are the TVS Jupiter models and the Suzuki Access. Both of the aforementioned models have been on sale for a long, long time, and you'll still see very early models still plying on the road, indicating that they too have great reliability like your Activa. Take a test ride of both and see which one you and your wife are more comfortable with.
Alternatively, you could also buy a new Honda Activa 110 or 125 since you have had such a great experience with your scooter, and it will be a familiar riding experience too.

I own a 2012 Honda Activa that is well-maintained and still provides a hassle-free, easy ride with great utility. However, since it’s ageing and needs frequent maintenance, I’m considering upgrading. I have found Honda reliable so far, which scooter should I consider next?

Since you have had such a nice experience with your Honda Activa, you can look at the latest Activa 110cc and Activa 125cc variants of the scooter, which will carry forward the same sort of experience your current scooter delivers, with added features.

If you want to look elsewhere, the TVS Jupiter models and the Suzuki Access are our current favourites in the scooter class. If you would like something that's flashier in terms of looks and has slightly more performance without sacrificing practicality and comfort, the TVS Ntorq is a good option.

I want to buy an EV scooter in the ₹1 to ₹1.25 lakh range with a real-world range of over 150 km. My daily commute is about 60 km. I prefer a model with low maintenance and easy service/repair. I was initially considering the Ola S1 X, but its service reputation is negative - so please suggest some strong alternatives.

Within your budget, there's no electric scooter with a battery big enough to fit your requirements. The options we would recommend looking at for you are the Bajaj Chetak 35 models, TVS iQube 3.5 or 5.3 variants and the Ather Rizta 3.7 duo. These options are quite a bit above your budget, so if you're open to a petrol scooter, you can consider the TVS Jupiter, Suzuki Access and Honda Activa models. Coming to the Ola S1X you're considering, even though it may be falling within your budget and look tempting on paper, please do not waste your hard-earned money on that product because the internet is flooded with horror stories that people have faced after buying Ola Electric products.

I’m looking for a scooter for my daily commute of about 75km, which includes village roads and highways. I’m 6 feet tall, so I need a comfortable scooter that also offers good mileage.

In the petrol scooter category, our top picks are the TVS Jupiter 110 and the Suzuki Access 125 (in their respective segments) for their blend of comfort, practicality, and fuel efficiency.
You can also consider the Honda Activa 125, TVS Jupiter 125, and Hero Destini 125. All are comfortable and frugal options.

Hi, I want to buy a scooter for my parents (both above 50). Comfort is my top priority - especially on typical pothole-filled roads - so I want a scooter that minimizes spinal impact. Which models should I consider?

You can check out the Hero Destini 125 as it offers a really plush ride quality over bad roads and through potholes. Ask your parents to test ride the scooter before making a purchase. Other options to consider are the TVS Jupiter 110 and the Suzuki Access 125.

I am 5 feet 1 inch tall and weigh around 60 kg. My inseam length is about 30 inches. Please suggest some scooters that suit my height so I can easily handle them and not feel the bike is too heavy. I need the scooter for family use.

Scooters you can consider are the TVS Jupiter 110, Suzuki Access 125, and Honda Activa models. All of these are lightweight and manageable.

If you want something even more approachable, then the TVS Scooty Zest 110 or the Yamaha RayZR / Fascino can be considered.

A test ride will help you decide which one suits you best.

I have been using a Mahindra Gusto since 2015 for my daily commute of about 20 km. Should I continue with it or buy an EV scooter?

Since your scooter is already quite old and not E20 compliant, we would recommend changing to a newer petrol scooter or an EV.

If you’re interested in an electric scooter, consider options like the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ather Rizta, or River Indie. Make sure you choose a variant that offers enough range for your daily use.

However, if EVs seem too expensive, a new petrol scooter like the TVS Jupiter 110 or the Suzuki Access will fit the bill.

I want to buy a scooter, as riding a bike daily feels hectic. I’m confused between a used 2013 Activa, which is quite cheap, a 5-year-old scooter around ₹50,000, or buying a new scooter on EMI. My budget is ₹50,000, and I’m unsure what to do.

We recommend buying a brand-new scooter for peace of mind and compatibility with today’s E20 petrol. A used scooter in your budget is unlikely to be E20-compatible and won’t be in as good condition as a new one. Among new scooters, our recommendations are the TVS Jupiter 110 or the Suzuki Access.
