Launched in September 2013, the TVS Jupiter scooter will mark its 11th anniversary next month. Initially introduced as a 110cc model, it was joined by a 125cc variant in 2021. Together, they have achieved cumulative sales of 67,39,254 units in the domestic market as of July 2024.

The Jupiter continues to be TVS Motor Co’s top-selling scooter and overall best-selling product in its two-wheeler line-up. In FY2024, the Jupiter set a record with 84,48,63 units sold, surpassing its previous best of 81,09,16 units in FY2018. It outperformed other models last fiscal, including the Raider 125 (47,84,43 units), XL100 moped (48,18,03 units), Apache range (37,81,12 units), and Ntorq 125 (33,18,65 units).

In the first four months of the current fiscal year, TVS has dispatched 2,99,687 Jupiter scooters to showrooms across the country, a 21 percent increase from 2,47,972 units in the same period last year. As in FY2024, the TVS Jupiter remains way ahead of its siblings – NTorq (1,49,617 units), Raider (1,42,744 units), Apache (1,51,269 units) and the XL100 moped (1,60,278 units). TVS Motor Co. has also exported over 80,000 Jupiter scooters since its launch.

RIDING TOWARDS THE SEVEN MILLION MILESTONE

The TVS Jupiter, a close rival to India’s best-selling scooter the Honda Activa, surpassed 30 million units in sales in June 2023 and sold 2.25 million units in FY2024.

In just two years since its launch, the scooter crossed the 5 lakh unit sales mark in 2015, reached 1 million in 2016, and 2 million in 2017. It hit the 4 million mark early in FY2021 and 5 million in 2022, leading to the release of the Jupiter 110 Classic to celebrate this milestone. Recently, it achieved 6 million sales in October 2023.

JUPITER POWERS TVS' MARKET SHARE TO 25 PERCENT

In the last 11 years, the Jupiter has helped give TVS a strong position in India’s scooter market. Within a year, the brand's scooter market share grew from 12.68 percent to 15.19 percent in FY2015 and 16.36 percent in FY2018. This was when the sporty TVS Ntorq 125 was introduced in India. Since then, the Jupiter-NTorq duo has accelerated TVS’ scooter market share to 25 percent, which is next only to market leader Honda’s 43 percent in FY2024.

The company's sales numbers show proof of the Jupiter's impact on TVS’s scooter sales. Of TVS’s cumulative sales of 10.8 million scooters from FY2014 to the end of July 2024, the Jupiter accounts for 6.73 million units, representing a strong 62 percent contribution. In the ongoing fiscal year’s April-July 2024 period, TVS sold 5,19,532 scooters, capturing a market share of 23.41 percent, of which the Jupiter has the giant’s share.
