I have been using a Discover 125 ST (2012 model) for the past 10 years, and my daily commute is around 30 km. I am now looking to buy a new bike and would appreciate your expertise. My requirements are good suspension to manage back pain, a comfortable seat, and good handling, as I am 6 feet tall and weigh 80 kg. I want a 125cc bike with good mileage, and braking performance is my top priority. My budget is ₹1 lakh to ₹1.5 lakh.

Taking your requirements into account, you can consider the TVS Raider and the Hero Xtreme 125R. Both are comfortable and spacious machines with decent handling capabilities. Both also gained some new variants recently.
The Xtreme 125R got a new variant with dual-channel ABS, while the Raider was updated with a new variant that has single-channel ABS and a rear disc brake too. We would advise you to choose between these as braking performance is a priority for you.

I want to upgrade from my 2013 Honda Shine and am looking for a peppy-performing motorcycle for city use only. Please suggest options in the 125cc and 150-160cc segments.

In the 125cc category, you have a long list of options with varying body types and feature sets. In the traditional commuter class, you could consider the Honda Shine and the Hero Super Splendor Xtec / Glamour models. If you want a sporty-looking, feature-rich commuter, you can consider the Honda CB125 Hornet, TVS Raider, and Hero Xtreme 125R.
In the 160cc category, bikes like the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V would be our recommendations on the sportier end of the scale. If you want a simple, straightforward commuter, the Honda Unicorn and any of the Yamaha FZ models will serve you well.
Take a thorough test ride of the bikes you shortlist before you decide.

I need a new bike for my daily commute in Pune city of at least 50km each day. I am looking for something that offers good mileage, is reliable, comfortable and stylish. My on-road budget is ₹1.5 lakh.

If you want to prioritise fuel economy, a 125cc commuter like the TVS Raider, Hero Xtreme 125R and the Honda CB125 Hornet will serve you well. The top variants of the TVS and the Hero come with single-channel ABS (as does the Hornet), and these are the ones we would recommend you consider.
If you want to step up to a 150cc bike, models like the Honda Unicorn, Bajaj Pulsar N160 lower variants and the more affordable Yamaha FZ bikes will fit the bill.

I am 35 years old and planning to buy a scooter or bike with a budget of ₹1.5 lakh. I typically travel about 25-30 km daily. I have existing back pain, so good suspension is my primary requirement. Please suggest suitable scooter or bike options.

Considering you have some back pain, we would recommend you stick with a motorcycle as the big wheels, longer-travel suspension and neutral riding ergonomics will keep you shielded from road imperfections. Inside your budget, we would recommend 125cc bikes like the Honda Shine 125, Hero Super Splendor / Glamour models, TVS Raider 125 and Hero Xtreme 125R. Depending on the sort of style you are after, you can choose between any of these.

Since you have asked us about a scooter, our current top picks are the TVS Jupiter 110, Suzuki Access and Honda Activa 125. While the scooters will be more practical, they will not be as ultra comfortable as a motorcycle over bigger bumps.

Take an exhaustive test ride before you decide.

I want to choose a motorcycle as a beginner and am still learning to ride. My daily usage is about 30 km. Which bike would you recommend that offers good mileage along with good looks?

Since you are learning to ride and haven't specified your budget, we will stick to recommending 125-150cc machines as they are affordable, fuel-efficient and beginner-friendly. Since you want a bike that stands out from the crowd, we would recommend considering the TVS Raider, Hero Xtreme 125R and Honda CB125 Hornet in the 125cc class. All are peppy, frugal and have catchy styling while being very easy to ride. All three come with single-channel ABS on at least one variant, and we'd recommend going for one of the ABS variants, considering you are a newer rider.

In the 150/160cc class, bikes like the Bajaj Pulsar N160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Suzuki Gixxer and Honda SP160 would be a good bet.
