I currently own a Maruti Baleno Delta (2020) manual. I have been planning to upgrade for quite some time. My main requirements include an automatic transmission car under 25 lakh (on-road) for Hyderabad. Since this car will also be driven by my wife, who is not well versed with manual transmission and hence, am looking to upgrade to an automatic. I drive for pleasure and comfort in both city and on highway. We are 6 members in our family and 6+ seater SUV would be perfect to go on trips together without losing on comfort. My daily running involves office commute, few highway runs to airport with once a month outstation trip. These together contribute to about 2000 km monthly running. I am also confused between fuel options as I am currently using petrol manual which gives around a satisfactory 15kpl mileage. I can consider diesel, but since I don’t have frequent highway trips, I am not confident of going through the hassle of higher maintenance as well as def and filter maintenance. I am more inclined towards hybrid and EV, however only concern with EV is range anxiety during outstation trips. Since Hybrid does not give mileage advantage due to ethanol blending in petrol, it also seems concerning. Please help me make a decision considering above factors.

Pick the Kia Carens petrol automatic with captain seats. It is the easiest way to get a true 6-seater that your wife will find simple to drive, yet it feels calmer and stronger than your Baleno when you load all six and head out on the highway. A well-specced mid variant sits within Rs. 25 lakh on-road Hyderabad, gives you a smooth auto, light controls, a genuinely usable third row, and still some boot for airport runs.Choose petrol and stop worrying about DEF and regen cycles. With your mix of city and a monthly trip, expect low-teens in the city and mid-teens on the highway if you drive gently. Strong-hybrids and EVs that make sense as 6 or 7 seaters simply do not exist in this budget right now; mild-hybrid MPVs like XL6 or Rumion save a little fuel, not a lot, and feel weaker with six on board. One point to keep in mind, the Carens’ dual-clutch can feel a bit hesitant in bumper-to-bumper and prefers smooth throttle. If most of your commute is crawling traffic, the Maruti XL6 6AT is simpler and silkier, just slower on the highway with a full family and less plush inside.

I’m currently driving a 2017 Maruti Baleno and looking to upgrade to an MPV for more space and comfort. The XL6 Automatic is on top of my list because of Maruti’s low running costs, reliability, and servicing. Which variant is suited for Bangalore usage at a reasonable price? I want the best balance of features vs value. What are other options - I’m specifically looking for an AT MPV/7-seater with low maintenance, good cabin quality, and strong after-sales. Does anything beat Maruti here, or is XL6 still the best bet? What is your opinion on second-hand? My budget is 15 lakhs. What is also your take on a second hand?

Go for a lightly used 2022-on Maruti XL6 Zeta Automatic, and you’ll get the best mix of comfort, features and Maruti peace-of-mind while staying near your Rs. 15 lakh cap in Bengaluru. The 6-speed auto is smooth in traffic, captain seats make second-row comfort a big step up from your Baleno, and running costs stay friendly. New-for-new, the Zeta is the value pick; the Alpha mainly adds nice-to-haves. The catch is that the XL6 is a 6-seater, and with all rows up, the boot is small. Also, with a full load it feels just okay on highways, not brisk. If you want seven seats, look at the Maruti Ertiga Automatic or Toyota Rumion Automatic. Same proven hardware, low upkeep, wide service network, and better third-row access. Cabin quality is simpler than XL6, but perfectly usable. In Bengaluru, both autos usually creep over Rs. 15 lakh on-road, so used makes sense here too.If you must buy a new car under Rs. 15 lakh, the Renault Triber automatic is the only realistic seven-seater, but it feels a size smaller, and the engine feels weak with seven onboard. After-sales is also patchy and not as strong as Maruti-Toyota.So yes, XL6 still fits your brief best. Buy a good used, low km, 2022-on Zeta AT, and you’re sorted.

I currently own a 2012 Hyundai i20, which I mainly use for office commuting and city driving of around 70 km per day. We are a family of six, and I am now planning to upgrade to a more spacious and comfortable car with a budget of around ₹14.5 lakh on-road. My primary requirements are: Comfortable ride quality and good suspension Spacious cabin with enough room for family use Powerful and effective air conditioning Better engine performance than my current i20 Good overall comfort for both city and highway driving Some modern features and convenience equipment would also be appreciated

Daily 70 km in the city, and a family of six, point you to a 3-row people mover within your budget. The Kia Carens Clavis 1.5 petrol HTE EX. It rides comfortably on rough city roads, so you and your parents won’t feel tossed around. The second row can be slid forward and backwards to balance room for passengers, and even the third row is usable for adults on short trips. The air-con is powerful, with roof vents helping with cooling. The engine is smooth and quiet in town, and the light controls make stop-and-go driving easy. You also get useful features even in the lower trims, but sadly, essentials like a rear wiper and defogger are only on higher-spec models. Two trade-offs to note: with all three rows up, the boot is small, and with six or seven on board, you will need a lower gear for quick moves. If you prefer a simpler, easier-to-own choice, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VXi/ZXi is a close second, with a strong AC and easy-to-use nature. Toyota Rumion offers the same package with Toyota service support. Overall, the Carens Clavis lines up best for comfort, space and cooling at this price.

indly suggest whether I should choose a new Toyota Innova Crysta GX Plus, a pre-owned Toyota Innova Crysta from TUCO Toyota, a Toyota Rumion, or Maruti Suzuki Ertiga for tourism use, family travel, and long-term ownership? I am confused. Kindly guide.

You haven't mentioned your budget, but since you're considering a brand new Toyota Innova Crysta GX Plus variant, it is safe to assume that you're comfortable spending close to Rs 25 lakhs (on-road). Since this vehicle will be used for commercial purposes, it would be better to buy a new car to start with. You will be able to claim tax refunds as well as benefit from asset depreciation in your company's books. Additionally, you get the peace of mind of a new vehicle, and the backing of a company warranty. To address the second part of your question, the Maruti Ertiga VXI MT or Toyota Rumion S MT costs half as much as an Innova Crysta GX Plus, resulting in a tremendous saving. In fact, you can even buy two cars for the price of one Innova. Both, Ertiga and Rumion are equally reliable. And even though these are petrol-powered, they're quite fuel efficient, and their maintenance costs will be lower than that of the diesel Crysta. Between the Ertiga and Rumion, even though they're the same, the Toyota is a bit more expensive, hence purely from a savings perspective, the Ertiga makes more sense.Overall, all three cars you've listed are reliable, dependable, and are backed by the widespread, strong network of Toyota and Maruti. It is up to you to decide whether you want to buy a new Crysta GX or if you're happy to buy one, or even examples of the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Rumion.Whichever you pick, these are cars you can't go wrong with.
