Toyota Rumion expert review
The Rumion shares its body panels with the Ertiga, but Toyota gives it a signature front grille with chrome accents and a redesigned bumper. It also gets dual-tone 15-inch alloys, while the rear remains largely unchanged except for Toyota badges.
7
The cabin layout is identical to the Ertiga, which means it’s spacious, comfortable, and practical. The second-row seats recline and slide, and access to the third row is easy. Even the last row is usable for adults, although headroom is limited. The airy cabin and dedicated rear AC vents add to the comfort.
9
The 1.5-litre, 103hp petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech is refined and responsive at city speeds. The 6-speed torque converter automatic shifts smoothly but feels lazy to downshift. Paddle shifters help regain some control. On highways, performance is modest, and engine noise becomes more noticeable when pushed.
7
Real-world efficiency from this powertrain is decent. In similar cars, we've seen city mileage around 9.2kpl and highway efficiency up to 17kpl. An auto stop-start system helps save fuel in traffic. The CNG variant is only offered in the base S trim.
8
Ride quality is comfortable, especially at low and cruising speeds. Vertical movements are noticeable over undulations, especially with a full load. Still, the Rumion feels composed, and the steering has more natural return than many Heartect-based models.
8
While safety is well covered with four airbags, ESP, and hill-start assist, feature content is basic. It gets halogen projector lamps, a 7-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a rear AC blower. However, higher trims don’t offer many added conveniences.
6
The Rumion is priced between ₹10.67 lakh and ₹13.96 lakh (ex-showroom), making it ₹70,000–80,000 costlier than the Ertiga. However, it offers the same strong fundamentals: space, practicality, comfort, and reliability. If you value the Toyota badge and slightly better after-sales perception, the premium might be justifiable.
