We understand your doubts about the long-term reliability and service experience of the Tata Safari, especially since Tata Motors’ reputation in this area has taken a bit of a beating in recent years. That said, the company is making a strong push to improve the overall ownership experience.
While it’s still a little early to comment definitively on how the Safari petrol will hold up over many years, we don’t expect it to be problematic to own. The new Tata petrol engine is a very modern unit manufactured at the company’s all-new engine facility at its Sanand plant, known for its higher quality standards.
On the whole, you can go ahead with the Tata Safari petrol with confidence. It’s spacious, very smooth, and nice to drive, making it a strong choice for family use.

Hello! I am a driving enthusiast and mostly drive solo. I am planning to purchase the Safari petrol Pure X. I like its road presence and visibility. However, I have a limited budget. I was initially planning for a budget of ₹15-16 lakh, but the Safari would cost close to ₹20 lakh. Please suggest whether I should go ahead with the Safari petrol or consider better options.
Given your requirements and budget, you should consider the Mahindra XUV 7XO. The Tata Safari is a good option, but the XUV 7XO offers a more powerful engine and a plusher cabin.
The XUV 7XO has good road presence, a spacious cabin, and it comes feature-packed. The Mahindra SUV is powered by a powerful 203hp, 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, and it has a very good ride and handling balance, so you'll enjoy driving it too.
Go for the base XUV 7XO petrol-MT AX, which is priced at Rs 13.66 lakh (ex-showroom), or if you can stretch your budget a bit, opt for the AX3, which costs Rs 16.02 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hello, I am planning to buy a 6-seater car, and the MG Hector Savvy Pro Petrol Automatic is what I liked the most. Is it a good choice? Are there any other 6-seater options? The MG Hector Savvy Pro petrol automatic is a good choice. It’s spacious, comfortable and very well-equipped for the price. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with the CVT is smooth, especially in stop-and-go city driving, which makes it easy to live with daily. The captain seats in the middle row are genuinely comfortable, and adding to the comfort is the soft ride quality, along with the relatively low step-in height, which makes getting in and out quite easy for family members.
The main downside of the Hector is fuel efficiency. If your running is limited, you can live with it, but if you frequently do long drives, the higher fuel consumption will show. Also, the suspension is tuned on the softer side. While that helps with comfort, at highway speeds, it doesn’t feel as planted or as confidence-inspiring as something like the Tata Safari.
In your budget, the Safari is really the only other proper 6-seater with middle-row captain seats worth considering. This Tata car is also spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. The new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is smooth and strong enough for most needs, and the Safari feels more stable at higher speeds. It also gets a useful “Boss Mode,” which allows the rear passenger to electrically move the front passenger seat forward for more legroom.

Hello. I want to purchase a big petrol automatic SUV in Chandigarh within an on-road budget of 21 lakh, which is almost 18 lakh, ex-showroom. Safety, prestige, decent mileage, low maintenance and some modern features are what I want. I will keep the car for only four years. I have zeroed in on Scorpio N Z8 Select AT, Tata Safari Pure X and Harrier Adventure X AT. Please advise. Primarily city driving with an occasional highway drive once a month.
The Mahindra Scorpio N offers a larger, more powerful 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, compared to the other two cars, and its rear-wheel drive layout will be a touch better to drive on hills, too. Additionally, being a body-on-frame SUV, it feels a touch tougher too, and more capable over bad roads. That said, since your usage is primarily in the city, the Scorpio N's ride will feel bumpier in the city. And purely for those reasons, we would recommend the two Tata SUVs.
There's very little to differentiate between the Tata Safari and Harrier, with the former having a three-row seating configuration and the latter being a 5-seater. Both drive similarly, and the 1.5-turbo-petrol engine is surprisingly powerful, refined and smooth. So, between the Safari and Tata Harrier, pick the one that appeals to you more.

I want to buy a 7-seater car, and I like the MG Hector Plus. I like its build quality, interior and price. Should I go for it or look at the Tata Safari or 7XO?
While there's a lot to like about the MG Hector Plus, like its upmarket interior and plush ride comfort, it isn't a spacious or comfortable seven-seater, due to a cramped third row.
The Tata Safari is certainly a better 7-seater SUV. Passengers will be comfortable in all three rows, and this Tata car feels tough and well-built. It is also well-equipped and has a stronger pair of engines - turbo-petrol and diesel.

I am looking to upgrade to a 7-seater SUV and am confused between the 7XO and Safari. I want good headlights, ADAS suite, fun-to-drive nature and a tech-loaded car.
Looking at your requirement, both the Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV 7XO will do you fine. However, we would lean towards the Mahindra on account of your requirements of 'tech-loaded' and 'fun to drive' being better served with the 7XO.
The Mahindra car offers features like a triple-screen setup that's standard across the range and a 16-speaker Harmon Kardon music system that sounds very good, among many more. Both the petrol and diesel engines on the Mahindra also deliver better performance and provide a very fun-to-drive experience. They are also more refined. As for the ADAS suite and headlights, both offer similar levels of performance.

I need your opinion on choosing between the XUV 7XO AX7 diesel and the Tata Safari petrol. I like the Safari’s features with the petrol engine, but am hesitant about mileage on long drives and whether the 1.5-litre engine can comfortably pull 6-7 people. The 7XO feels good overall but misses features like second-row adjustment, a powered tailgate, and connected DRLs. I plan to keep the car for at least 7-9 years. Please advise.
The Tata Safari petrol is a good car, and its 1.5-litre petrol engine is very smooth and offers sufficient performance. However, it is not as fuel-efficient as the Mahindra XUV 7XO’s diesel engine, and for long drives, the diesel 7XO makes more sense.
Firstly, it is more efficient, and the strong 450 Nm of torque gives it ample performance for effortless highway overtakes. The 7XO’s new suspension setup has also made it feel more settled and stable at highway speeds.
Yes, it misses out on a sliding second row, and the third row space is not as good as the Safari’s, but if you can live with these drawbacks, the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel is the better option overall.

I currently have a 2013 Grand i10 petrol top variant, and I am planning to upgrade to the MG Hector Plus Petrol CVT Savvy Pro variant. I find it very comfortable, premium-feeling, and value for money. My yearly driving is around 9,000 km, with 40% in the city and 60% on the highway. I do have a doubt because sales in India are quite low for this car. Is it a good buy for me?
The MG Hector Plus is a great value for money, delivering a lot of bang for your buck, especially when it comes to space and comfort, both of which are excellent. It's also very well-equipped, although its large touchscreen is laggy and has been known to have glitches.
Sales have slowed compared to when the SUV was launched in 2019, as newer or updated competition has entered the segment. Although the Hector has received its own share of updates, including the smoother CVT replacing the old DCT gearbox, they have not been as comprehensive as others.
Another drawback is that there is no diesel automatic option, which buyers in this segment want, and which rivals such as the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO do offer. Additionally, the petrol CVT powertrain has very poor fuel efficiency, which is something you should keep in mind, given your high usage.

I have been using my car for the past 12 years, and it has run 53,000 km. I want to purchase a 7-seater within a budget of Rs 25 lakh, with fuel economy and safety being priorities.
The Mahindra XUV7XO and the Tata Safari would fit within your budget and meet your requirements for safety. However, when it comes to fuel economy, being large SUVs, both would be fairly thirsty - the Mahindra more so, thus we would recommend you look to the diesel options in both cases.
Between the two, the Tata Safari would have the better third row while the XUV would deliver a smoother and peppier drive experience.

Planning to buy a new diesel automatic 7-seater with a budget of ₹25 to 28 lakh. Confused between the Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV 7X0. Also, is an extended warranty worth it?
Both the Safari and the XUV 7X0 are very good cars, and the choice depends on what you want from your car. The Tata Safari has a classier interior feel, and the third row of seats is a bit more spacious and comfortable when compared to the XUV7XO.
However, the 7XO has the measure of the Safari when it comes to powertrains, both petrol and diesel engines on the Mahindra deliver better performance and refinement than the Tata units. While both cars are very well equipped, the Mahindra XUV 7XO has a few more feel-good features like a passenger display, which incidentally is standard across the range.
In terms of an extended warranty, it's very much like medical insurance; you hope to never use it, but it's always nice to have.
