I am planning to buy a new car which will be my first car, with a budget of ₹9 lakh to ₹11 lakh maximum. Can you please suggest the best variant in terms of fuel efficiency, ride experience, safety, and value for money?
You can consider the Tata Altroz. While it may not be as fuel-efficient as something like a Maruti Swift, it is efficient enough, and if driven well, it should get you low double-digit real figure KPL figures in the city.
Moreover, its ride quality is very good, and it soaks up road imperfections with ease and while always retaining good control. In terms of safety, there's a host of features like 6 airbags and ESP standard, as well as a 5-star BNCAP crash rating. Within your budget, you should get the higher-end petrol variant, and you would thus enjoy some nice-to-have features too. We would say the 'Creative' variant would do you well.

I have been using a Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi for the past several years. It has crossed 1.45 lakh km and is a 2008 model. I wish to buy a new car. My major driving involves long trips with family or friends, while city usage is comparatively lower. My preferences are comfort for five persons, low maintenance, safety and efficiency. I can spend around Rs 10 lakh. Thanks in advance.
If you'd like to replace your Fiesta with another diesel car, the entry-level Tata Altroz Pure variant is your only option on this side of Rs 10 lakhs. The good news is that this car is spacious enough to accommodate five people. Its diesel engine is strong and very fuel-efficient. And it feels stable and planted on the highway. Moreover, the Tata car has a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash safety score too, and is equipped with all the modern safety features.
Alternatively, if you wish to opt for a petrol sedan, get the Maruti Suzuki Dzire for its spacious cabin, efficient petrol engine, and comfortable ride experience. With the Maruti, you can expect a trouble-free ownership experience too.

I am a first-time car buyer, but am confused between Altroz DCA and i20 IVT. I am 5.4ft, and have a family of four. City usage with 1/2 long trips in a month.
Considering your primary usage is in the city, a CVT gearbox is a better option than a DCT. DCTs can be jerky in stop-and-go traffic and are prone to overheating, which results in more frequent wear and tear. With that in mind, the Hyundai i20 CVT would be a better choice for you.
This Hyundai car is easy to maintain and comes equipped with most of the features available in the segment. Its CVT is also one of the smoothest on the market. The i20 has a larger wheelbase (2580mm) compared to the Tata Altroz (2501mm), translating into better second-row space. The engine is refined, and the power delivery is smooth, making it an overall easier car to live with.

I am confused between the Tata Altroz diesel and the XUV 3XO MPFI petrol. My running is around 1,500 km per month, and once every 2–3 months, I do long trips of about 2,500 km. Should I save money and buy the Altroz, or spend extra for the added comfort of the 3XO?
The Tata Altroz diesel is a well-rounded car. It is spacious, feature-rich, good to drive, and the diesel engine delivers good performance while being very fuel-efficient too. Since your monthly usage is on the higher side, you will benefit from lower running costs by opting for a diesel, compared to a petrol/turbo-petrol car. Also, the Altroz feels reassuringly stable on the highway, and even passengers will be comfortable over a long journey.
With the Mahindra XUV 3XO, you get high seating and ground clearance, and its turbo-petrol engine is strong and refined too; however, efficiency will not be as good as the diesel Altroz. Between the two, we'd recommend you go ahead with the Tata car.

I want to buy my first car with a budget of up to ₹10 lakh. My daily commute is around 140 km. Which would be the best option considering fuel costs, comfort, and long-term reliability?
Since your daily running is very high, we would recommend you go for a diesel or CNG car. Do make sure, however, that there are easily accessible CNG pumps around your area. If you do opt for a CNG car, the Hyundai Exter would be a good option, as Hyundai cars are known for their reliability and longevity.
The Exter CNG uses twin CNG cylinders under the boot floor, instead of a single large one inside. Thus, you get a very usable cargo area. If, however, you prefer a diesel car, then consider the Tata Altroz, as it is the only diesel hatchback and offers good fuel efficiency.

Hi, I am confused about whether to buy the Altroz diesel or the Kylaq.
Both are very different cars. The Tata Altroz diesel makes sense if you are driving long distances and spend long hours on the highway. The Altroz’s relaxed cruising ability, stable high-speed manners, and diesel efficiency and running costs are a better choice.
The Skoda Kylaq has superior engineering, brilliant ride and handing and a very smooth 1.0 TSI engine. The Kylaq is much nicer to drive, more spacious, and overall the better car of the two.

Hi Autocar Team, I am Neel. I am buying my first car and need suggestions for a non-AMT automatic car with an on-road budget of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh. My priorities are safety, mileage and features like a 360-degree camera and cruise control. Kindly provide your suggestions.
For the 10 lakh band, you can look at either the Tata Altroz or Honda Amaze. Altroz gets a torque converter automatic and will be around 10 lakhs on road. It also gets the features you are looking for. Honda Amaze gets a CVT and will fit in your budget, but misses out on 360 degree camera. Both of these cars have secured a 5-star safety rating.
For the 14 lakh, you can choose the Tata Nexon, the Petrol Creative DCT variant, which also gets most of the features you want.

With a 2,500km monthly usage, opting for a diesel car will be a sensible choice. From the Tata stable, you could consider the Altroz or the Nexon. Both of these Tata cars are spacious, well-built, and have excellent safety ratings. Their engine is fuel-efficient, but these aren't very refined.
The Kia Syros is also a great option you can consider. It is equipped with a smoother, more refined diesel engine, and it has been awarded a 5-star crash safety score by BNCAP. The new Venue shares its platform and powertrain with the Syros, and with a more conventional design, new-age features, and better cabin space than before, it is one option that you must seriously consider.

My daily commute to work is around 90 km, and monthly driving is around 2,000–2,500 km. The XL6 AMT is my only vehicle. I am confused about whether to go for an EV, a diesel, or CNG car. CNG has long waiting queues. My budget is ₹10 lakh. My driving is partly in city traffic and partly on the ring road. Or should I switch to a bike? Please advise.
With a Rs 10 lakh budget, the Tata Tiago EV will be a good option for you. The Tiago EV is a smooth and sensible car, and its small footprint makes it adept for urban usage.
It gets a 24kWh battery and its real-world range is around 190km, twice as much as your daily usage. However, you will have to charge it almost daily to ensure there is more than sufficient range at all times. By charging the car at your home, the running costs of this EV will be similar to or even lower than those of a bike.
Alternatively, you could opt for a diesel Tata Altroz. It is a very fuel-efficient option, and even though the running costs will be higher than an EV, these will still be significantly lower than a similarly priced petrol car.

I am confused about which car to buy. My wife wants to keep the budget at Rs 10 lakh. I am looking for a car with good safety features, and the main idea is to have a comfortable car where we can fit a baby seat along with the child’s kit and other essentials.
The Tata Altroz is a good option to consider. It is spacious, has a very comfortable ride, and is safe with a good list of standard safety equipment like six airbags and ESP standard across the range. Also, in your case, the car has ISOFIX mounts so you can fit a compatible child seat securely.
There is enough space inside the cabin and also a 345 litre boot, which should easily store your baby's kit, like a pram for instance. And finally, you will get a decently equipped model at your Rs 10 lakh budget.
