Skoda Kylaq FAQs

The Kylaq’s starting price is similar to the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO, which are also offered with a similarly powered turbo-petrol engine. Turbo-petrol engines offered with other rivals like Venue, Sonet, Magnite and Fronx have a higher starting price. The Kylaq also has one of the most affordable top-spec trims with a turbo-petrol engine in the segment at ₹12.99 lakh.

In terms of real-world performance, as well as the overall drive experience, the Kylaq is one of the best compact SUVs currently. However, it falls short in terms of equipment like a 360-degree camera and ADAS, which rivals offer. It is value-for-money if for you the driving experience precedes the requirement of premium features.

Hi, I am planning to upgrade from my Volkswagen Polo 1.2 MPI to an automatic car. My monthly running is around 800 km, mostly in the city. My priorities are excellent NVH levels, comfortable ingress and egress for my elderly parents, and a plush ride quality. I am confused between the Hyundai Venue Turbo Automatic and the Skoda Kylaq Automatic. Should I buy one of these now, or would it be better to wait for upcoming models like the Maruti Suzuki Vision S, Hyundai Bayon, Renault Bridger, Kia Clavis, or the new Kia Sonet? Also, is there any other car that would suit my requirements better? I have also heard that DCT gearboxes are not ideal for heavy city traffic. Is that true?

Go for the Skoda Kylaq automatic. Your priorities are clear: low NVH, easy ingress/egress for elderly parents and good ride quality. The Kylaq delivers on all three. The cabin is well insulated, the ride is comfortable, and the ideal seat height makes getting in and out easy. The 6-speed torque converter automatic is also the right choice for your usage. It is smooth and well suited to city driving, unlike the DCT in the Venue, which can feel hesitant in stop-go traffic. The Venue turbo DCT is a good car, but the Kylaq is the more comfortable and easier-to-live-with option. As for waiting, the Vision S and Bridger are expected later next year; the Bayon will be bigger and more expensive, so none are likely to fundamentally change the equation for your requirements.

Hi Team, Please help me choose the right car. I am planning to buy a car with a budget of around Rs. 11-12.5 lakh (on-road price in Delhi NCR). I need an automatic car, and my monthly running will be approximately 600 km, mainly in city traffic, especially on the Delhi-Gurgaon peak traffic stretch. I prefer to keep my cars for a longer period and will be upgrading from a Hyundai i20 manual. Based on my requirements, please suggest the best option among the following: Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi AT - Rs. 11.9 lakh on-road Kia Sonet DCT HTK(O) - Rs. 11.2 lakh Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta Plus AMT - Rs. 9.6 lakh Skoda Kylaq Signature Automatic - Rs. 11.2 lakh I am unable to decide which one would be the most suitable choice for my needs. Kindly suggest the best option.

Go for the Skoda Kylaq Signature Automatic. It is the best fit for your usage and available under Rs. 12 lakh, which fits your budget. Your running is low, so petrol is the right choice, and the Kylaq’s 1.0 TSI engine paired with the 6-speed torque converter automatic is a proven and reliable combination that works well in Delhi-Gurgaon traffic. This Skoda car is also one of the most fun-to-drive cars in this price range, with strong performance and good highway manners, which makes it a meaningful upgrade from your Hyundai i20. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXI AT is a solid alternative if you want a more relaxed ownership experience and Maruti’s service reach, but the Kylaq is the more engaging car to drive. The Kia Sonet DCT is not the right choice for your usage because the DCT gearbox is not ideal for heavy stop-and-go traffic. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta Plus AMT is the most affordable option, but the AMT gearbox is not as smooth as the Kylaq’s torque converter, and the car itself does not feel like a meaningful upgrade from your i20.The Kylaq strikes the best balance between driving experience, reliability and value for money.

We are planning to upgrade from i20 Magna CVT 2018 model to a newer car under Rs.15 lakhs. My top priority is Kylaq Prestige+ AT due to the way it drives as per my experience during the test drive. It handles so well and just blazes past other cars for quick overtakes. However I am worried about its fuel efficiency. Is it gonna be too low? My second option was Venue HX5 Diesel Automatic but from what I am seeing so far with the DPF issues, I am worried that this car would be a bigger risk in the long term. That's because our long highway drives would only be once or twice a month at max, and sometimes not even that. Also, I am not seeing a lot of good reviews about this variant's mileage even though its a diesel engine. I am not planning for Mahindra or Tata since my previous experience with these brands has been sub-par. Usage-wise, we drive around 700 to 750 km monthly with a mixed use of 40% highways and 60% city roads where the traffic can get intense during peak hours in the evening. Please advice.

Go for the Skoda Kylaq Prestige+ AT. Your usage of 700-750 km a month with a 40:60 highway-to-city split does not justify a diesel, especially given your concerns about DPF issues and the fact that your highway runs are only once or twice a month. The Kylaq’s 1.0 TSI turbo petrol paired with the 6-speed torque converter automatic is a proven and reliable combination, and the car’s strong mid-range performance makes overtaking effortless, which you have already experienced on your test drive.Fuel efficiency is not the best and in our real world tests the Kylaq returned 8.7 kpl in the city and 13.6 on the highway when driven normally. Of course a diesel car is more efficient but for your running, the savings will not be very substantial over the life cycle of the car, especially when you factor in the lower purchase price of a petrol over a diesel. The Kylaq also offers a more engaging driving experience than the Venue, with better handling and a more planted feel on the highway.

Hi, I'm a first-time car buyer and planning to buy the Skoda Kylaq Classic Plus, which will cost me around Rs. 10 lakh on-road. My monthly running will be around 700-800 km. Is it a good choice? I'm looking for a reliable and safe car. I am not considering Tata due to concerns about its after-sales service.

Yes, the Skoda Kylaq Classic Plus is a very good choice under Rs. 10 lakh for a first-time buyer with your usage. At 700- 800 km a month, a petrol SUV is the right call, and the Kylaq is one of the best value-for-money options in the segment. It is safe, well-built and genuinely enjoyable to drive, with a strong turbo petrol engine and a solid, planted feel on the highway. The service network of Skoda is not as wide as Maruti or Hyundai, but it has improved significantly in recent years, and the Kylaq itself is a relatively simple, proven package. Overall, your choice is a good one.

We are planning to upgrade from our 2018 Hyundai i20 Magna CVT to a new car with a budget of under Rs 15 lakh. My first choice is the Skoda Kylaq Prestige+ AT because I really enjoyed the way it drove during the test drive. The handling is excellent, and it feels very quick during overtakes. However, I'm concerned about its fuel efficiency. Will it be too low in real-world use? My second choice is the Hyundai Venue HX5 diesel automatic, but I'm worried about potential DPF issues over the long term. We usually do only one or two highway trips a month, and sometimes none at all. I've also come across mixed reviews about the fuel efficiency of this diesel variant. I'm not considering Mahindra or Tata because of my previous ownership experience with those brands. Our monthly running is around 700-750 km, with a 40:60 highway-to-city split, and city traffic can get quite heavy during peak hours. What would you recommend?

Go for the Skoda Kylaq Prestige+ AT. Your usage of 700-750 km a month with a 40:60 highway-to-city split does not justify a diesel, especially given your concerns about DPF issues and the relatively infrequent long highway runs. The Kylaq’s 1.0 TSI turbo petrol engine paired with the 6-speed torque converter automatic is a genuinely enjoyable combination. It delivers strong mid-range performance for quick overtakes and feels far more engaging than most rivals in this price bracket. The Skoda Kylaq mileage in mixed conditions should be in the 11-13 kpl range, which is reasonable for a turbo petrol SUV with this level of performance.
