Renault Kiger FAQs
If you want the convenience of the CVT and the performance of the turbo-petrol engine without missing out on usable everyday features, then the Techno offers good bang for the buck.
Questions you may find useful
I am a first-time car buyer. Please suggest an SUV that is easy to drive for a new driver who is not very confident behind the wheel. I am looking for a car with very light steering for heavy traffic and parking, good ground clearance, a 360-degree camera, and a CVT transmission, as I feel CVTs are easier to drive in traffic. What about the Honda Elevate CVT? It offers good hood visibility and ground clearance, but I am not sure about its steering. I also feel it is a bit long, and it does not have a 360-degree camera. Could you suggest other options that would suit my needs? Are Hyundai and Kia IVTs better than CVTs? What about the Nissan Magnite CVT and Renault Kiger CVT? Would an EV be a better option? Overall, please suggest an automatic car that is easy to drive for someone who is not very confident behind the wheel. I would prefer a car that meets my requirements, but I am open to better suggestions as well.
For a first-time driver who is not very confident, the Nissan Magnite CVT and Renault Kiger CVT are the most natural fits, while the Honda Elevate CVT remains a good choice if the extra size is manageable. The Magnite and Kiger are compact, have light steering, good all-round visibility, around 205mm ground clearance and 360-degree cameras, making them particularly easy to place in tight traffic and parking spaces. The CVTs are also smooth and predictable, which is useful for a new driver. The Kia Seltos 1.5 IVT is another good option, and its IVT is essentially a CVT in operation, but the Seltos is larger and therefore not quite as unintimidating as the Magnite or Kiger. The Honda Elevate CVT has several advantages for a new driver, particularly its good bonnet visibility, upright driving position, 220mm ground clearance, light and predictable CVT and 5.2m turning circle. Its 4.3m length, however, will make tight parking slightly more challenging than in the Magnite or Kiger. The current Elevate's lack of a factory 360-degree camera is also a drawback, although the upcoming Elevate facelift is expected to get a 360-degree camera, which would make it a considerably better match for this requirement. An EV can be even easier in traffic because there is no gear changing and the response is very smooth, so the Punch EV is worth considering if home charging is available.
My budget is Rs 15 lakh. I will be the primary user of the car, although five people may occasionally travel in it. I have shortlisted the Skoda Kylaq and Renault Kiger, with the latter being considered with both the turbo-petrol and CVT options. My daily usage will be limited to around 8km, with occasional long-distance trips. Considering that the Kylaq’s rear-seat space is not particularly comfortable for three adults and that the Kiger’s RPM fluctuates even when driving at a constant speed, which of the two would be the better choice? Please also consider E20 compatibility while making the recommendation.
Go for the Skoda Kylaq. With your low daily running and occasional long trips, the Kylaq's 1.0 TSI petrol engine paired with the 6-speed torque converter automatic is a better fit than the Renault Kiger's turbo petrol with CVT. The Kylaq's engine is more refined, more responsive and better suited to highway driving, while the torque converter automatic feels smoother and quieter than a CVT. The Kiger's CVT can feel inconsistent at times, which is likely what you are noticing as unstable RPM at constant speeds. On the rear seat, the Kylaq is not the widest car in the segment, but it is still a comfortable 5-seater for occasional use. The Kiger is slightly narrower and does not offer a significant advantage in rear seat space. Both cars are E20 compliant, so there are no concerns on that front. The Kylaq is the better all-rounder here. It offers a more enjoyable driving experience, a smoother automatic gearbox and a more refined engine, which will make a bigger difference over long-term ownership than a marginal difference in rear seat width.
Kiger's boot swallowed three suitcases and a stroller for our trip without any adjusting needed. Didn't think a car this size would handle that much luggage this comfortably.
Between the Kiger and the Magnite, which one has actually aged better design-wise 3 years after launch? Curious what the general consensus is now versus at launch.
I am a first-time car buyer looking at used cars under a tight budget of Rs 4-5 lakh. I want an automatic premium hatchback or compact SUV, mainly for city use with an occasional long drive once every two months. High ground clearance would be a plus for my aged parents, although I understand that may not be possible at this budget. I am considering the Hyundai i20 Elite, Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. However, I am avoiding the Magnite and Kiger because of concerns about maintenance and serviceability. Which would be the better option?
For a first-time buyer with a Rs 4-5 lakh budget, city use and occasional long drives, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno or Toyota Glanza automatic is the safest and most sensible choice. Both use a simple AMT gearbox, which is not the smoothest but is reliable, easy to maintain and well-suited to city driving. Maruti's service network is the strongest in the country, and Toyota's service experience is also excellent, so long-term ownership is unlikely to throw up surprises. The Baleno and Glanza are also among the most spacious premium hatchbacks, with good rear seat comfort and easy ingress and egress for elderly parents. The Hyundai i20 Elite automatic is also a good option, and it has a CVT, which is smoother than Maruti's AMT. However, the Baleno/Glanza's lower running costs and wider service reach give them the edge in this budget. The Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger are not bad cars, but their service networks are not as extensive, and long-term ownership confidence is not as strong as Maruti or Toyota in this price range. If you want a slightly higher seat for your parents, consider the Maruti Ignis AMT; however, the Baleno is roomier inside. Alternatively, consider a slightly older Brezza.Overall, the Baleno or Glanza automatic is the best fit for your needs. They are reliable, easy to maintain, comfortable for family use and well supported across the country.
