I am a first-time buyer and prefer a seven-seater. My monthly running is hardly 200 km, but once every three months, I will do a 1,000 km drive with full capacity.

There are multiple seven-seater options available across different price points - the most affordable being a Renault Triber, followed by Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Kia Carens Clavis, and so on.
Since you haven't mentioned your budget, you could click here to find out all the seven-seater cars you have in the market.

I want to buy a new car. I have shortlisted three cars: Maruti Ertiga, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Tata Sierra. I want a petrol model with a manual gearbox, good mileage, good safety features, and the ability to handle both local and occasional long drives. Please advise.

All three cars listed are very different - the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is a no-nonsense seven-seater MPV; the XUV3XO is a turbo-petrol compact SUV with excellent ride and handling balance; and the Tata Sierra is a mid-size SUV which is likely to offer the most space and feel the most premium of the lot.
You don't seem to have a definitive requirement for a seven-seater since two out of the three cars you've listed can only seat five; the only reason to consider an Ertiga is for its fuel efficiency.
If that is something you can overlook, we'd recommend you shortlist the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Sierra. Out of these, even though the Mahindra car is likely to be punchier and more fun to drive, the Sierra's larger size and more cabin space are likely to deliver a nicer drive and cabin experience, making you feel like you've spent your money well.
The Sierra's NA petrol isn't likely to be much more efficient than the Mahindra's turbo-petrol, due to the Tata's heavier kerb weight; however, between the two, it is the one we'd recommend.

I currently own a 2022 Baleno Zeta AGS and am very happy with its mileage, low maintenance, and ease of driving. I want to exchange it for a compact 7-seater thatโ€™s easy to maneuver on Bangalore streets and also comfortable for long road trips. I recently drove the Renault Triber and liked its steering and ride quality. My budget is up to โ‚น10 lakh- should I buy a new compact 7-seater or consider a good second-hand option?

Given your requirements and budget, you have two options. The Renault Triber is well-priced, genuinely practical, versatile and can accommodate up to seven passengers. But its 72hp, 1.0-litre petrol engine feels lethargic, especially when the car's fully loaded.

Alternatively, you could consider the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Ertiga is more spacious, has a more powerful and refined engine and being a Maruti car, you'll also like the peace of mind it comes with. There are currently two Maruti Ertiga variants (LXi and VXi) that are priced below Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Iโ€™m looking for a reliable 7-seater automatic car within a โ‚น17-22 lakh on-road budget. My annual running is about 5,000 km in the city. I need a smooth, safe, easy-to-handle petrol car with proven reliability and economical driving. Which automatic models would you recommend?

You have two options that fit your requirements - the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Kia Carens Clavis. Both models come with smooth 1.5-litre petrol engines, though the Kia's is much more powerful (160hp vs Ertiga's 103hp) thanks to being turbocharged.
But on the flipside, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will be much more efficient. The Ertiga is also slightly smaller, which will make it easier to drive and being a Maruti car, you know it will be reliable too.

We are a family of five with one senior citizen. Occasionally, we go on long trips, but otherwise our daily usage is limited to a maximum of 10 km. We currently own a second-hand Celerio, but its suspension and long-distance comfort are not suitable for our 60+ family members. Please suggest whether we should go for a 5-seater or a 7-seater so that senior citizens can rest better during long trips. I am confused between buying a new Hyundai Venue or Tata Sierra, or going with the Ertiga. I also considered Kia, but my maximum budget is โ‚น12 lakh on-road. Please suggest a new car.

Given your budget of Rs 12 lakh, your best bet is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. While it is a 7-seater, it will give you the flexibility of seating 5 more comfortably, with some room left for luggage on your occasional long trips.
The biggest advantage, however, is that the Ertiga's MPV body style means the floor is not as high off the ground as an SUV's, and therefore will make entry and exit easy for your senior citizen family members. Plus, it offers comfortable seating and ride quality, which should serve you well, whether in the city or out on the highway.

We are a family of six, including parents. We are looking for an affordable 7-seater under Rs 14 to 15 lakh. We donโ€™t have daily usage but make regular trips to our hometown, around 400 to 600 km per month.

The best 7 seat options within your budget are the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens Clavis. Both models are practical MPVs with comfortable seating for 7 passengers.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is a sensible option and is cheaper to buy and maintain. Within your Rs 15 lakh budget, you could get a fully loaded Ertiga automatic, though the manual should meet your requirements.

The Kia Carens Clavis is more expensive than the Ertiga, but it is a superior product. It feels more upmarket and is more comfortable. Options to consider within your budget include the 1.5 petrol manual HTK and the 1.5 turbo-petrol in HTE(O). You get a few fewer features on the HTE(O), but the turbo-petrol's added power is something you'd appreciate on highway drives.

We are a family of six, and I am looking to buy a 7-seater manual SUV under 16 lakh. I prefer a body-on-frame design. My shortlisted options are the Scorpio Classic, Bolero Neo, and Bolero. Among these, please suggest the better choice for balanced city and highway use.

Among the three options on your shortlist, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic is the best option. It's got the most powerful engine of the three, which you will particularly appreciate on highway drives.
The Scorpio Classic S is the one that will fit your budget, but it comes with basic features. If you need more features, the Bolero Neo N10 packs in a fair bit.

It must be highlighted that all three options you are considering have side-facing third row seats. These are not as safe as front-facing seats, and we'd strongly advise against this configuration.
There isn't any body on frame alternative within your budget, but you should instead consider monocoque MPVs like the Kia Carens Clavis and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

Hello - this is my second car purchase and my first time buying for family needs. Iโ€™m confused between the Hyundai Creta and the Maruti Brezza. My priorities: safety (I drive from Udupi to Bangalore once a month with my two kids), legroom (Iโ€™m tall and my husband is 6'2"), and occasional travel with my in-laws. Our budget is within โ‚น6.5 lakh. Are Creta or Brezza suitable, or are there other better options youโ€™d suggest?

We would recommend you go with the Maruti Brezza. The car is smaller than the Creta; however, you would find a better condition and newer Brezza with the budget you have in mind. Also, the Brezza is among Maruti's better-built cars, and it fared well in the GNCAP crash tests. As an option, given that you do need to travel with your in-laws too, we would also suggest you look at a used 2nd-generation Maruti Ertiga. This MPV has more space in the 3rd row than the 1st generation car and should fit within your budget. It also secured a 3-star GNCAP crash rating and comes with a decent level of safety equipment.

Iโ€™m a frequent reader of this section. Iโ€™m looking for a car that can comfortably seat five people. My priorities are safety, fuel efficiency, and low maintenance. My budget is below โ‚น10 lakh, and Iโ€™m open to hatchbacks, sedans, or compact SUVs. Please suggest.

Given your requirement for seating five passengers, an SUV would be a good choice. Under โ‚น10 lakh, the Mahindra Bolero Neo is a good option. This Mahindra car has a roomy cabin with good space for five and a frugal diesel engine that offers low running costs and low maintenance.
If not the Bolero Neo, you can check out the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, but beware, you will only get the base version under your budget, which will not be as well-equipped.

I need a 7-seater for my family of six, including two elderly members. My driving is light (about 200 km a week), but when I do drive, itโ€™s mostly out of the station on hilly routes and long trips. I want a comfortable, reliable car for around 14 years. Please advise.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will suit your needs the best. It offers a comfortable ride and a roomy seven-seat layout with easy access for the elderly. The engine has adequate power for long drives and hilly areas, and being a Maruti Suzuki car, itโ€™s hassle-free to own as well.
