I have been using a Maruti 800 for the last 14 years and want to replace it and buy a new car. My budget is 9 lakh, which car should I purchase?

You should look at the Maruti Suzuki Fronx as a replacement for your Maruti Suzuki 800. It's a stylish car that scores for its smooth and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine. The Fronx is significantly larger than the 800 but is an easy car to live with thanks to light steering, a slick gearbox and smooth clutch. Given that you live in Shopian, the Fronx's ample ground clearance is also something you would appreciate.

My budget is ₹10-11 lakh, and this will be my first car. My monthly driving will be less than 200km. Please suggest a suitable option.

Without knowing other requirements, it is hard to pinpoint the ideal car for you. However, given that you are a new driver, we will give greater weightage to ease of use and hassle-free ownership. Based on body style, here are a few suitable options to consider:

Hi Autocar experts! I’m a first-time buyer with a strict ₹13 lakh budget and need an automatic car (not AMT). I have shortlisted the Hyundai Venue 2025 HX5 DCT variant. Is it good value for money within my budget? What are the pros and cons of the HX5 DCT variant? Do you have any other suggestions?

The Hyundai Venue Turbo DCT is a good package, but it is on the pricey side by segment standards.

The HX5 variant does get reasonable features, but we would urge you to consider the HX6 version. While the price gap from the HX5 to HX6 is significant, the HX6 does get essential safety features like a rear wiper, adjustable rear headrests and wider tyres. Of course, the jump to HX6 also brings in more comfort features such as a rear armrest and auto climate control, among others.

Alternatively, you could consider the Kia Sonet Turbo DCT HTX, Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 and Maruti Suzuki Fronx Turbo Zeta, all of which offer good automatic gearboxes. Also pack in plenty of comfort and safety features within your Rs 13 lakh budget.

Hi Autocar Team, I learned to drive in my 2011 Santro and have been driving it for almost a year. I now want to buy a new car with a budget of approximately ₹9 lakh. Safety is my top priority. My usage is low at around 200 km in the city, and I also plan to take monthly highway trips. I am confused between the Tata Punch Adventure Plus and the Maruti Fronxx Delta Plus. Please suggest which one I should consider with reasons, and whether I should prefer an automatic.

Of the two options you have shortlisted, it's the Maruti Suzuki Fronx that we'd recommend. It's got the peppier engine, which will make a big difference on your highway journeys.

Given your limited usage in the city, an automatic isn't essential. Again, were you to opt for the automatic options, it's the Fronx's AMT that's superior to the one you get on the Tata Punch AMT.

My budget is under ₹14 lakh. I need a five-seater petrol car, preferably automatic, with at least 15 kmpl city mileage. It should offer a comfortable and safe ride, be suitable for long drives and mountain roads (not expecting 4x4), and have low maintenance with minimal complaints from owners. Please suggest.

Since you need an extremely fuel-efficient automatic 5-seater, we recommend the Maruti Suzuki Fronx/Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor 1.2 Petrol AMT. The engine has adequate performance for your highway drives and will be smooth for city use. Moreover, its high ground clearance will be handy on bad roads. These cars are likely to be quite reliable, so you can expect a trouble-free ownership experience.

Reasons for the upgrade: AMT fatigue, better highway safety, improved suspension, and a bit more space. My usage: 1. Bangalore (Whitefield), moderate city driving 2. Around 20 days of highway driving per year 3. Planning to keep the car for about 9 years Must-haves: 1. 360-degree camera 2. Budget of ₹15-16 lakh on-road (maximum) 3. Good suspension 4. Mileage is not a concern Considering the Hyundai Venue HX8 Turbo DCT with dealer-fitted 360-degree camera versus the Nissan Magnite Tekna+ Turbo CVT, which is feature-rich and reliable, at around ₹13 lakh? Which offers strong value for money? How do Magnite’s reliability and service compare?

The Hyundai Venue HX8 Turbo DCT is the better pick for you. The Nissan Magnite Tekna+ Turbo CVT is a good option, but it competes more closely with cars like the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. If you are looking for something that feels more premium and will stay fresh in the long run, the new Hyundai Venue makes more sense.
While this Nissan car is more affordable on paper and offers impressive space, the Venue does most things a notch better if your budget allows. It feels more comfortable and premium, has better feature execution, and delivers a more polished overall driving experience.
In terms of reliability, both brands have a good track record. However, Hyundai’s wider service network is an advantage, especially if you plan to keep the car for a long time.

Hi, I’m looking to buy my first car with an on-road budget of around ₹10 lakh in Chennai. I average about 500 km per month and also do trips to Coimbatore 3-4 times a year and occasional long drives, so comfort, features, reliability, and low maintenance are important. I’m considering the C3X Shine, 3XO, Baleno, Glanza, and Fronx, but I’m open to other suggestions that fit my usage and budget - please recommend the best choice.

We would lean towards the Citroen C3X Shine with the 1.2 turbo engine and six-speed AT. It's a little above your budget but will suit your needs best as it is extremely comfortable, has a superb suspension and the best powertrain for the price.

For highway driving, it is the best of all the options you have shortlisted because of the brilliant engine and dynamics. However, we have added that Citroen’s dealer network is not the best, and hence, after-sales service could be a worry.

If you want to play safe, go for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, it's well equipped, reliable and comes with low-cost maintenance. It’s just that for your budget, you will get the 1.2 petrol mated to an AMT, which is nowhere near as nice to drive as the C3X.

We are a family of 4 having a 2013 Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire regal clocked 2L+ kms and now we want a new car with good performance, good features, reliable, easy to maintain, light on wallet, don't have to worry for 8-10 years. Roads are not that good, occasionally hits Highway, sometimes drives on village roads, monthly driving of approx 1500-2000km along with some days of going nowhere not even starting the engine, want comfortable ride, budget of 20-30 lakhs please suggest some good options

Since you need an extremely fuel-efficient automatic five-seater, we'd recommend you consider a Maruti Fronx/Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor 1.2 Petrol AMT. Besides, the engine has adequate performance for your highway drives, and will be smooth for city use.

I want to purchase a new automatic car for my wife. She currently drives a Kwid AMT and our budget is between ₹10 lakh and ₹11 lakh. Our monthly running will be around 300-400 km, mostly in city traffic. We want a smooth, hassle-free car with good mileage and the latest technology and features. We are open to both petrol and EV options - please suggest which car to choose.

Considering your running and if you are open to an EV, the MG Comet is a good option for your wife. It is extremely easy to drive, park, and live with thanks to its compact size. Even the top variant falls within your budget and comes well-loaded with features.

If it feels too small and you want something more substantial, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx AMT in the Delta Plus variant is a good fit. The 1.2 litre petrol engine is smooth and efficient, and the AMT works well for everyday use.

If you prefer a more premium automatic, the Hyundai i20 with the smooth CVT transmission is also a strong option and fits comfortably within your budget.

I want to change my car and buy a new hybrid vehicle within a ₹10-12 lakh budget; which hybrid cars are launching soon in this range, and will a flex-fuel option be a good choice?

At the moment, there aren’t any hybrid cars in the Rs 10-12 lakh bracket. The most affordable ones you can buy right now start closer to Rs 20 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce a new line of more affordable hybrids, starting with the Fronx Hybrid, although it’s unlikely to arrive before 2027. Even then, it’s uncertain if it will fit within a Rs 12 lakh budget.

When it comes to flex‑fuel vehicles, they only really make sense once India moves to higher ethanol blends. The current target is E20 (20% ethanol), and there’s no plan yet to exceed that. Cars designed to run on higher ethanol blends, such as E30 or higher, tend to be less fuel-efficient because ethanol contains less energy than petrol.

That efficiency loss would only be worth accepting if high‑ethanol fuel were significantly cheaper but so far, there’s no sign of that happening.
