I am confused between the Maruti Victoris and the new Kia Seltos. Which one should I buy? I am looking for a petrol automatic option under a budget of ₹16-18 lakh. Both cars have some limitations, like rear space is bad in the Victoris, while the Seltos does not offer as good mileage as the Victoris. There are a few more differences as well. Need advice on which one serves better overall.
Between the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and the Kia Seltos, the Seltos is the more rounded and future-proof choice in your budget.
The Kia Seltos is a larger, more substantial SUV, and that shows in day-to-day use. It feels more planted on the road, the cabin is wider, and overall space, especially in the rear seat, is noticeably better. If this is going to be a family car, that extra room and comfort will matter more over time than you initially think.
On the engine front too, the Seltos’ 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol is stronger and more relaxed. Performance is smoother, and it doesn’t feel strained, especially with passengers on board or at highway speeds. The automatic gearbox pairing is also well sorted for city use. It simply feels like a more mature driving experience.
Yes, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris does return slightly better mileage, and that’s one of Maruti’s traditional strengths. But the difference isn’t so dramatic that it should be the deciding factor, especially if your annual running isn’t extremely high. Over a few years, the fuel savings won’t outweigh the advantages you gain in space, comfort, and overall feel with the Seltos.
Where the Seltos also scores is in perceived quality and features. The cabin design, materials and equipment levels give it a more premium vibe in this segment. If you’re spending Rs16-18 lakh, it should feel special, and the Seltos does that better.
So overall, unless outright fuel efficiency is your top priority, the Seltos serves better as an all-rounder. This Kia car offers more space, better road presence, a stronger engine, and a more upmarket experience.

Looking for an automatic car without a sunroof, with a budget under ₹15 lakh. I love the Creta, but my mind needs an opinion on my options before I give in to my heart.
You will need to stretch your budget for the Hyundai Creta automatic, as even the base EX O IVT variant will set you back by over Rs 16 lakhs on-road. Also, by default, this variant gets a sunroof. Alternatively, you could look at the Kia Seltos, the HTE O IVT variant, which is cheaper than the entry-level Creta automatic, and what you will also appreciate is that it doesn't get a Sunroof.
Moreover, the Seltos has a newer interior, which feels modern and looks more upmarket than the Creta's. Cabin space is more than that of the Hyundai, and the Kia's ride comfort is also very impressive. You will still have to stretch your budget for the Kia, but the Seltos HTE O IVT is seriously worth considering.

I am confused between the EV and petrol versions. My driving is around 1,100-1,400km a month. I am confused between the new Seltos base model, Grand Vitara, and the e Vitara. Which one should I buy?
Given your usage of 1100-1400km per month, we do not recommend an electric car. Even if your usage is spread evenly over each day of the month, it will require frequent charging, which is not good for battery health.
While you haven't stated a budget, given a basic-level Kia Seltos as your target, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara would be on the expensive side. In fact, the Kia Seltos is probably the best option for you, as even the basic HTE variant will be good value for money.
It's the largest, most spacious and most comfortable of the three SUVs, and even in the HTE variant, you get a decent amount of features. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is also reasonably efficient if driven carefully.

You could shortlist the Kia Seltos and the Mahindra XUV 7XO. Both are excellent midsize SUVs that will fall within your budget. Both are feature-rich, spacious and reliable. Since fuel efficiency is something you're concerned about, you could consider their diesel versions. If you're open to electric cars, the Hyundai Creta Electric is a fantastic option.

I am currently driving a 2019 Ford EcoSport automatic petrol (Titanium Plus) and am looking to change. I am considering the Sierra Pure Plus DCA and the Kia Seltos HTK IVT (O), both petrol, and I am a little confused about which one to go for. My daily commute is from Delhi to Gurgaon, and once in a quarter, I do a road trip with a maximum distance of 600km one side.
You’re coming from a 2019 Ford EcoSport automatic petrol, so you’re used to a compact SUV that feels reasonably peppy and easy to drive in city traffic. With your daily Delhi to Gurgaon commute and the occasional 600km highway trip, drivability and effortlessness do matter.
The Tata Sierra is a very appealing SUV. It stands out for its striking looks, well-appointed cabin and exceptional comfort. In fact, riding on the smaller 17-inch wheels with 215/65 R17 tyres, the Sierra has an outstanding ride quality and simply smothers bad roads with ease. The cabin is also very spacious, offering more legroom than the Seltos, and the seats are very comfortable, making it a pleasant place to spend long hours.
However, the Sierra’s main weakness is its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. When paired with the dual-clutch automatic (DCA) transmission, it feels quite slow. It takes over 20 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100kph, which is on the slower side for this segment. In real-world terms, this means overtaking on the highway requires more planning and patience.
On this point alone, we would steer you towards your other option, the Kia Seltos HTK with the IVT (CVT) transmission. The Kia Seltos feels livelier and more responsive than the heavier Sierra. It’s easier to drive in everyday conditions and requires less effort on the highway, especially during overtakes. For your mix of city commuting and occasional long road trips, the Seltos would feel more relaxed and confidence-inspiring overall.

Since you have a low daily running, a petrol SUV would be a good choice for you. The Kia Seltos in its HTK (O) guise, featuring a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with a CVT gearbox, would be ideal for your intra-city runs. The Seltos is one of the more modern SUVs in the segment and has a fantastic interior with high-quality build and features.
You could also wait for the new Renault Duster, as it also has a promising powertrain, and while the interior space or premiumness is not as high as the Seltos, it has a lot of character when it comes to design. That said, as of now, we would recommend the Kia Seltos as it is a very well-sorted SUV that gets the basics right and even in its mid-spec guise, feels modern and worth the money. It has a good ride, the rear seat is comfy, and it is light and convenient to drive in the city.

I have a 2015 manual diesel Creta SX(O) model for the past 10 years. Planning to buy an automatic car. Family of two, and I am 65. Only Bangalore city driving, averaging 100 km per month. What car similar to the Creta do you suggest? I do not mind waiting for six months.
For your mostly city driving in Bangalore and an easy-to-live-with automatic, the Kia Seltos is a very good choice. It feels familiar but is larger, more spacious and better equipped than your old Creta, with a bigger boot as well.
We recommend the 1.5 litre petrol with the IVT automatic. The gearbox is smooth and seamless, and the refined engine makes everyday driving effortless. The Hyundai Creta is also a good option, but the Seltos feels slightly more spacious and is a better value at a similar price. Plus, the Hyundai Creta is expected to be replaced early next year, and since you are willing to wait, this is something you can keep in mind before making a final decision.

I regularly service my Kia Seltos (December 2024 model). The current odometer reading is approximately 37,714 km. The last service was done at 28,000 km, so I understand that the next service is due at 38,000 km. However, due to Holi, I need to travel to my hometown and won’t be able to get the car serviced in Gurugram. I will be travelling approximately 500-600 km to Lucknow and have already scheduled a service appointment there. Could you please confirm whether it is safe to drive an additional 500-600 km beyond the 38,000 km service interval before getting the 4th service done?
It is always recommended to stick to the prescribed service intervals, as they are defined after extensive testing and are important for the long-term health of the car, as well as for keeping the warranty intact. That said, real-world situations like travel plans do come up, and manufacturers do account for some buffer while defining service schedules.
In your case, driving an additional 500 to 600 km beyond the 38,000 km service interval in your Kia Seltos should not be a problem, especially since you already have a service appointment scheduled in Lucknow. Service intervals are designed with a degree of redundancy, and a small overrun like this is generally acceptable. The sensible thing to do, which you have already planned, is to inform the dealership about the situation and get the service done at the earliest possible point after your journey.

Your confusion is understandable because these cars appeal for very different reasons. Starting with the Tata Sierra, commenting on long term reliability is genuinely difficult because it is an all new product. You are absolutely right about its road presence. It looks bigger on the road because it is taller and wider, and that translates into a wider cabin and excellent seating comfort. Space and the sense of safety are clear strengths, and for someone who values size and presence, the Sierra naturally feels more desirable.
The Kia Seltos, however, is a far more rounded and proven package. As you correctly observed, it is priced lower and yet offers more features at the same price point. The 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with the CVT automatic is extremely smooth, refined and well suited for your Faridabad to Gurgaon commute. This powertrain has been around for a while now, is well understood and is known for being fuss free to own over the long term. For someone planning to keep the car for five to seven years, this matters a lot.
If road presence, cabin width and the appeal of something new matter more to you, the Sierra will satisfy emotionally. But if you are looking at this purely from a long term ownership perspective with refinement, reliability and peace of mind as priorities, the Seltos is the easier recommendation.

Hi, I need an automatic car for a daily commute of 50 km on weekdays in Mumbai city. I will hardly be taking any long trips on weekends or otherwise. Which car would you suggest: Harrier Petrol, 7XO Diesel or Seltos NA/Turbo, considering that I currently drive a Kushaq 1.0 manual? Budget is 25 lakh.
Purely as an urban commuter, the Kia Seltos NA Petrol IVT is the best option in terms of smoothness and user-friendliness. It is larger than your current car, and will feel like a proper upgrade in terms of space, comfort, features and tech.
Do keep in mind that your Skoda Kushaq's Turbo-Petrol engine is more powerful in comparison, and the Seltos 1.5 NA's performance could feel a bit underwhelming on the open road. Its turbo-petrol version will feel relatively more effortless.
The Tata Harrier and XUV 7XO are larger cars, and since you don't plan to use the new car for long trips, these could feel too big to drive in Mumbai's traffic.
