I want to add a new vehicle to my family. Since I drive very occasionally and do not take frequent highway trips, I would prefer sticking to petrol. I want a good 6 or 7 seater within Rs 20 lakh. I prefer a no-nonsense vehicle with low maintenance, good tech, no sunroof, comfortable seating and a reliable service network. I do not like Maruti, Jeep, Mahindra and Tata. Please suggest a good vehicle.

Go for the Kia Carens Clavis 1.5 petrol. It is a spacious, practical and comfortable seven-seater, with an overall no-nonsense approach.
You might want to consider one of the lower variants, which don't have a sunroof but have other goodies like LED lights, touchscreen, etc.

I am a first-time buyer and prefer a seven-seater. My monthly running is hardly 200 km, but once every three months, I will do a 1,000 km drive with full capacity.

There are multiple seven-seater options available across different price points - the most affordable being a Renault Triber, followed by Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Kia Carens Clavis, and so on.

I am very happy with my Honda BR-V, but itโ€™s time to change the car. Which model would be the best replacement for my BR-V? I drive about 20,000 km per year.

Given that you still want a three-row MPV, you should consider the Kia Carens Clavis

This Kia car has a spacious and practical interior, it's feature-packed, and what's nice is that passengers will be comfortable in all three rows of seats.

The Carens Clavis can be had with a 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol, a 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine options. However, given that your yearly running is high, it's best to opt for the diesel, which can even be had with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox for greater convenience.

I want to upgrade to a 7-seater. Most of the usage will be with the third row folded for boot space. My priorities are practicality, reliability, easy maintenance, and features. Budget is up to โ‚น25 lakh (max). I need easy ingress and egress and good comfort for three adults in the second row. Usage is mostly city driving (around 70 km per week) with occasional 1,000 km highway family trips. Automatic is preferred. I have shortlisted the Carens Clavis, Alcazar, and XUV700. I have had a great ownership experience with my Hyundai Grand i10 for 50,000 km.

Out of the three models you have shortlisted, the Kia Carens Clavis makes a lot of sense for your usage. The Carens Clavis, despite being smaller than the XUV700, is the more practical car of the two.
In your budget, you get the top HTX(O) variant with the DCT transmission, and it will be easy to drive in the city while having enough power for highway use as well. So far, despite being a young brand in India, Kia cars have generally proven to be reliable, and we have not heard any major complaints about ownership experience or reliability issues.
If you want a more powerful car and are tilting towards the Mahindra XUV700, then we would suggest waiting for the facelift, which is right around the corner and is expected to bring cosmetic updates and feature additions.

Iโ€™m looking for a reliable 7-seater automatic car within a โ‚น17-22 lakh on-road budget. My annual running is about 5,000 km in the city. I need a smooth, safe, easy-to-handle petrol car with proven reliability and economical driving. Which automatic models would you recommend?

You have two options that fit your requirements - the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Kia Carens Clavis. Both models come with smooth 1.5-litre petrol engines, though the Kia's is much more powerful (160hp vs Ertiga's 103hp) thanks to being turbocharged.
But on the flipside, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will be much more efficient. The Ertiga is also slightly smaller, which will make it easier to drive and being a Maruti car, you know it will be reliable too.

I want to buy a new car because my current one is almost 11 years old. I drive around 500โ€“600 km per month on average. Iโ€™m looking for a 6โ€“7 seater vehicle on a budget, and Iโ€™m torn between the Maruti XL6 and the Hyundai Alcazar. Can you suggest which one would be better, or recommend other options?

The two cars you have shortlisted fall in different segments; in fact, where the Maruti XL6 price ends, is where the Hyundai Alcazar price begins. The Alcazar is a superior vehicle in terms of comfort, quality, features and engines.

However, the XL6 MPV body style means that space efficiency on the interior is better. The XL6 has just a single engine option - a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Also, it is not as powerful as the Alcazar, but it will be more fuel-efficient. If you are budget-conscious and want to keep running costs low, the Maruti XL6 is the better choice for you. You could also consider the Kia Carens Clavis, which falls between these two on price.

Only considering ride comfort and engine performance, which is better: the Honda Elevate or the Kia Carens Clavis petrol NA?

While the two vehicles are closely matched, on balance, given your two requirements of ride comfort and performance, the Honda Elevate has the edge.
In terms of ride comfort, the Kia Carens Clavis has a softer edge, which is beneficial in the city. Though not as soft, the Elevate's suspension is still very comfortable, while allowing for great stability at speed and while turning.
On the performance front, the Honda 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine is superior not just for its greater output - 120hp vs 115hp - but also due to its freer revving nature and greater eagerness in power delivery.

Looking to buy a vehicle for city use with a daily running of 40-50 km and a budget below 20 lakhs. My top priority is back seat comfort, as it will be chauffeur-driven since my wife doesnโ€™t drive. Vehicle safety is also a top priority. I am open to any body style. Kindly suggest.

The MG Hector is a great pick if rear seat comfort is your top priority. It has a very spacious and airy cabin, and rear seat comfort is good too. What also strengthens Hector's case is that ride comfort at low city speeds is plush. The Hector petrol makes sense given that you arenโ€™t looking for a vehicle for city driving. Do bear in mind that the Hector petrol's fuel economy is poor.

There are also other options that deliver a good rear seat experience. Our top picks include the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV700, Honda City and Kia Carens Clavis.
You could also wait for the Tata Sierra, which could be a comfortable option worth considering.

I am looking for a 7-seater hybrid automatic car with ADAS and cruise control. My budget is around 20 lakhs.

Unfortunately, there is no single car that meets all your requirements. There is no strong hybrid seven seater within your budget, and the most affordable options are the Maruti Suzuki Invicto and Toyota Innova HyCross that start around Rs 28 lakh (on-road).

If you are primarily looking for the best 7-seater in your budget, the Kia Carens Clavis is the one we'd recommend.
You could get a 1.5 turbo-petrol with DCT automatic transmission in HTK+(O) spec within your budget. It packs in cruise control, but ADAS is offered only on the top-spec Kia Carens Clavis HTX Plus, which is closer to Rs 24 lakh (on-road).

I have been using Wagnor CNG for the last 11 years, and now I want to upgrade. My preference is XL6 automatic. My daily driving is around 10 km, and twice on the highway in the Konkan region, around 1000 km. Please advise. Is the XL6 a good choice, or is there a better option?

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is a good MPV with a spacious rear row of seats and offers very good value. Being a Maruti Suzuki car, you will also be able to service it pretty much anywhere, and the car will be reliable too.
Other options in this MPV segment would be the Kia Carens Clavis. It would be more pricey than the XL6 but comes across as a more premium offering with a better interior and a very good third row too.
If you are looking for a CNG again, the Clavis does not have that option, in which case the XL6 would best suit your requirements.
