I have driven 1,25,000 km in my 2019 Honda Amaze S so far, of which around 20,000 km were on petrol and 1,00,000 km on CNG. We are a family of six. I want a small car for daily city use (around 1,800 km per month), and I also travel 250 km with my family twice or thrice a month. Should I replace the current Amaze and buy two separate cars, or continue using the Amaze and buy a new vehicle for family trips? I am considering the Citroen C3 Live CNG as a replacement for the Amaze and the Kia Carens Clavis diesel for family use. My budget is ₹16 to 17 lakh. Please advise and suggest alternatives, if any.
If you are happy with your Honda Amaze and it is not giving you any trouble, you can continue using it for your daily city runs and buy a new car for your family trips.
For your family trips, the Kia Carens Clavis is a very good option. It is spacious, comfortable, drives well, and its diesel engine is both refined and efficient.

I want to buy a seven-seater family car with a budget of around ₹15 lakh. Which one should I choose? I’m not a big fan of the Ertiga.
We'd suggest you check the Kia Carens Clavis. It's a very well-packaged MPV that offers good space for seven passengers. The Carens Clavis also feels superior to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in its cabin quality.
The base 1.5-litre petrol offers reasonable performance, but if you will drive on highways often, you should consider the stronger turbo-petrol whose added performance counts for a lot. Do note, your budget will allow the standard 1.5-petrol in higher HTK trim and the 1.5 turbo-petrol in lower HTE(O) trim. Features that you get on the HTK but not on the HTE(O) include auto climate control, front parking sensors, and LED DRLs, among others.

I am planning to buy a new 7-seater and am confused between the Kia Carens Clavis and Maruti Ertiga, both with naturally aspirated petrol engines. I do not like the new air-conditioning setup in the Ertiga. Could you advise on the Carens Clavis in terms of mileage, reliability, and long-term service costs?
The Kia Carens Clavis is a great 7-seater. It is very spacious, and even tall adults can sit in the last row without any issue. The cabin feels very premium, with high-quality materials used, and even the lower variants offer impressive standard equipment, which makes the entry-level 1.5-litre petrol versions excellent value for money.
The 1.5L petrol engine is smooth and refined, and in our tests, it accelerated quickly than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, indicating better drivability too. This engine is shared with the Carens, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Verna, and it has been quite reliable so far. Service and maintenance costs are also on par with, or even lower than, its rivals.

I am looking to buy my first car, a 7-seater, within a budget of ₹20 lakh. Most of my driving will be within the city, around 500km per month, with about 1,000km of highway driving annually. The car should be easy to drive and nimble. Please suggest a suitable option.
The Kia Carens Clavis is the best pick for you. It's an easy-to-drive MPV that offers comfortable seating for 7 passengers. Given your usage, we'd advise you to consider the Clavis with a petrol engine. The standard 1.5 naturally-aspirated petrol engine will be sufficient for your requirements.
However, your budget allows for the more powerful turbo-petrol engine, whose added performance will come in handy, particularly on highway drives. The turbo-petrol is available with a manual gearbox, and you could also consider the dual-clutch (DCT) automatic variant for more convenience. To keep within your budget, you'll have to opt for a lower trim version of the DCT automatic, though.

I have been driving a Mahindra XUV500 for the past 10 years, and the odometer now shows 1,60,000 km. I am planning to change my car and want to stay in the same segment. I have a stipulated budget of ₹18 lakh and am looking for a similar 7-seater SUV with minimal electronics, great comfort, better mileage, and strong safety. My typical running is about 10,000 km every six months. Please suggest what I should go for.
You have not specified which fuel type is your preferred choice, but if you want good mileage in 7 seater segment, we suggest you go for Diesel.
Since you are driving a Mahindra XUV 5OO, a good upgrade for you is the soon-to-be-launched Mahindra XUV 7XO. However, at 18 lakhs, you will have to choose the MX or AX5 variants, but unless Mahindra gives 6 airbags in these variants, it will fall short on the safety criterion.
A very sensible alternative is the Kia Carens Clavis diesel. It’s comfortable, practical, and well-suited to family use, with a ride quality that works well both in the city and on the highway. It should also deliver good mileage and is generally easy to live with day to day.

I want to buy a car with better suspension and one that's easy to get into because my mother has knee problems.
Without knowing your budget, it is hard to suggest the right car for your needs. However, the best options to consider are the Kia Carens Clavis and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The MPVs have relatively low floors and large rear doors that will make getting in and out more convenient for your mother.
Also, both of these cars deliver a comfortable ride. The Kia Carens Clavis does have a softer and more absorbent ride quality, especially on versions that ride on 15-inch wheels.

My monthly running is about 1,000km. I want a 7 seater for 80% highway and 20% city driving. My budget is around ₹25 lakh. Fuel efficiency and comfort are the two main factors.
Within your budget, the Kia Carens Clavis is a good option. It is easy to drive and offers a comfortable third row. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines are powerful enough for both city and highway use, with decent efficiency.
Considering your limited running, the petrol variant makes more sense. While the diesel is more efficient, and your highway usage should not cause DPF issues, your usage does not justify the higher price. Also, the diesel automatic is offered only in a single mid variant, which is not very feature-rich.
If you want something more powerful, we would suggest waiting for the soon-to-be-launched Mahindra XUV 7XO. It will offer more effortless performance, but its third row, though usable, will not be as comfortable as the Clavis, and fuel efficiency will also be lower.

I already own a Creta Electric and am now a fan of electric vehicles. I need a new 7-seater for around ₹22-24 lakh. My running will be very low - about 500 km per month, plus 3-4 long trips a year of around 350 km one way. I’m confused between the Mahindra 7XO and the 9S (2P pack, 70 kWh), as they seem very similar, and the decision will mostly depend on final pricing. Which one should I buy? Are there any other options you can suggest?
The Mahindra XEV 9S is a large car, but its last row isn't comfortable for adults over long drives. Hence, if you need a comfortable seven-seater for long drives, consider the Turbo petrol versions of the Kia Carens Clavis and Tata Safari instead.
There's also the Kia Carens Clavis EV in this range, which shares its battery+motor with the Creta Electric. However, on your 350km+ highway drives, you will have to stop and charge once, as its real-world highway range is about 345km as per our tests

I currently own an Ertiga Diesel VDI and am planning to change my car. I want a 7-seater vehicle with an automatic transmission and would like suggestions on suitable options.
The most logical option for you would be to upgrade to the current Ertiga, which is a generation ahead of the one you currently have.
The current Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is more spacious than your model and comes with a smooth 6-speed automatic too.
However, there is no diesel option available like in the previous generation Ertiga that you own. So if you are looking for an MPV with the low running cost of diesel, the next best option, if you have the budget, is the Kia Carens Clavis diesel. It comes with a 1.5 diesel automatic, coupled to a smooth-shifting six-speed auto transmission.

I want to buy a seven-seater, and my annual running is around 20,000 km, mostly on CNG. I am confused between the Kia Carens and the Ertiga. I am concerned about the Carens’ fuel efficiency, especially in city usage. Is the Kia Carens CNG expected anytime soon?
There are no plans for a Kia Carens CNG, as the brand offers both a diesel option and an EV for those who want lower running costs. The downside, of course, is that the purchase price of these versions is higher. If you're hell-bent on CNG, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is an excellent car, with good space and practicality.
However, on most other fronts, the Kia Carens Clavis is better. It has a more upmarket interior with good space in all three rows, and a variety of engine options, including that diesel. Apart from the turbo-petrol engine, which has to be driven carefully to return good fuel economy, the other engines are very fuel-efficient. Hence, if it fits in your budget, we recommend the Kia Carens Clavis.
