My Wagon R has run 70,000 km in 3 years. I now want to buy a new car. Please suggest a car that offers good mileage and comfort. I am 6 feet tall, and my budget is Rs 10 lakh.

You could look at a Tata Punch CNG, which is a high-riding sub-compact SUV with an excellent driving position. It also feels tough and confident over bad roads.
The other option you must check out is the Hyundai Exter CNG Duo, which is smoother, more refined, and delivers slightly better performance than the Punch.

Please advise me on replacing my existing Santro Xing with a new automatic car. I am 66 years old and drive around 500 km a month.

Get a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R AMT. Its tall-boy design makes getting in and out easy; furthermore, visibility all around is good, getting a judgment of all the corners of the car is a breeze thanks to its boxy body, and its light steering makes it very easy to drive and maneuver.
But if you want to upgrade within the Hyundai family, consider the Hyundai Exter AMT for its smoothness and tall stance.

I drive about 300 km weekly on the highway and 150โ€“200 km in the city. I need a car with better mileage than the Ignis, good comfort, strong safety, and ample boot space. Iโ€™m open to CNG but not electric. My budget is โ‚น10-12 lakh. What do you advise?

The CNG Hyundai Exter would be a good option for you. The CNG setup consists of dual tanks that fit under the boot floor, thus you will still have a usable boot.

The seats are a bit firm, and the cabin is narrow, so if space and comfort are also very important, you can look at the Tata Nexon CNG. It too has a dual CNG setup below the boot floor, and the cabin is roomier than the Exter. The ride too is comfy and well composed at highway speeds.

I am looking to buy a petrol automatic car with a budget of up to โ‚น8 lakh. I travel about 90 km daily in heavy city traffic (Gurgaonโ€“Noida). Is the Hyundai Exter a good option, or can you suggest a better alternative, as mileage is a priority? Iโ€™m not interested in cars as small as the Celerio.

The Hyundai Exter is a good all-rounder and will be a nice upgrade from your existing Maruti Wagon R. However, considering you drive a lot in peak traffic, an automatic would be ideal, so you could consider stretching your budget for the automatic version of the Exter.

However, if you want to stick closer to your 8 lakh budget, consider the Renault Kiger 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine. The automatic version would be only slightly above the 8 lakh mark, but you will get a car that is compact enough for the city, spacious inside, and has a good ride.

In both cases, the gearbox will be an automated manual (AMT), so there will not be a significant mileage difference compared to the manual versions.

I want to buy my first car. I am 43 years old. I have booked a pre-owned Hyundai i20 Sportz, 2023 registration, which has only run 9,500 km and has no dents or major scratches, at Rs 6.35 lakh. At the same time, if I spend Rs 2 lakh more, I can get a new Hyundai Exter SX model at Rs 8.35 lakh. What should I do? Should I buy the pre-owned i20 or the new Exter at Rs 8.35 lakh? Please reply this time.

If you don't mind owning a pre-owned car, and have thoroughly checked the vehicle for accident, flood, or any other damages, the i20 will feel like a much superior car than the Hyundai Exter - its quality is better, its cabin is more spacious, and it feels more confident while driving too.
We'd suggest going ahead with the 2023 Hyundai i20. You could also consider extending its warranty for added peace of mind.

I grew up reading Autocar since I was 13, and now, at 25, I want to buy a CNG car for around โ‚น10 lakhs for primary city use, with average speeds under 25 km/h. Iโ€™m confused between the Baleno, Exter, Dzire, and Altroz. Fuel efficiency and a hassle-free ownership experience are my priorities. Iโ€™m also open to other good CNG options you suggest. Additionally, is the new Brezza expected to get an underbody CNG setup in 2025?

The Tata Altroz in the Creative spec will fit in your budget and is a well-packaged premium hatchback. The dual-cylinder also allows for a decently sized boot, and it offers good power for city driving. The main advantage this Tata car has over the other cars you mentioned is a premium cabin, more features and space and comfort. It rides very well, feels plush and has good tech. The Exter has a bigger boot, and Hyundai is better than Tata when it comes to after-sales, but as a product, the Altroz is better and will suit your needs well.

Hi team, Iโ€™m confused between the Toyota Glanza AMT and the Hyundai Exter IVT as my first car. Both fit my โ‚น10 lakh budget. My driving is split about 50% city and 50% highway, and I use the car roughly once a week. Please suggest which one offers lower maintenance and better overall performance.

Please note, the Hyundai Exter does not come with an IVT/CVT gearbox but an AMT.

As for your query, the Toyota Glanza AMT is the one to buy. It's got a more powerful engine and delivers superior performance in both city and highway driving conditions. As an added plus, the Glanza also feels more upmarket than the Exter. The Glanza is also fuel-efficient and is known to be cost-effective to maintain, making it an easy pick of the two models on your shortlist.

I am a first-time buyer. My daily commute is 80 km per day from Faridabad to Gurugram. I want to buy a CNG car. Between the Altroz and Exter, which one is better in terms of average and maintenance?

The Tata Altroz CNG is the bigger and more premium offering with more features, whereas the Exter CNG has better fuel efficiency and hence has a lower running cost. However, for 80km of daily driving, the Altroz will be a better buy.
This Tata car not only gets more features but also offers better safety with a 5-star GNCAP rating and has an excellent ride. It is confident on the highways, and long drives are effortless thanks to the comfy suspension and large seats.
The Altroz will be the more rounded package for you and is recommended over the Hyundai Exter.
