Volkswagen India has announced the introduction of a special ‘Black and White’ edition for its Polo, Ameo and Vento models. The Black and White edition cars will be available across the brand’s dealerships in the country without any additional cost.

As a part of the Black and White package, all models feature body graphics, ‘Black and White’ Leatherette seat covers, rear spoiler, 16-inch ‘Portago’ alloy wheels, black painted roof, black ORVMs and a ‘Black and White’ chrome badge on the front fenders. Apart from this, Volkswagen has also reintroduced the ‘Deep Black’ colour on the Polo and Vento only.

In terms of engines, all models share a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel unit. This engine makes 90hp in the Polo hatchback and comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. However, it puts out 110hp in the Ameo and Vento sedans and can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.

The Polo and Ameo also share a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor that produces 76hp and 95Nm of torque, which powers the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Vento features a larger 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol motor, which puts out 105hp and 153Nm of torque and comes with a 5-speed manual only. There’s also a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine on offer with the Polo and Vento that produces 105hp and 175Nm, which is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

In terms of competition, the Volkswagen Polo rivals the Maruti Suzuki Swift, the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Ford Figo while the Ameo takes on the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the Hyundai Xcent and the Ford Aspire. The Vento, meanwhile, rivals other mid-sized sedans like the Hyundai Verna, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the Honda City and the Skoda Rapid.
