Tata Nexon EV facelift variant details revealed

Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the Nexon and Nexon EV facelifts on September 14. The Nexon EV is currently available in two variants – Prime and Max – but these suffixes will be dropped for a new naming strategy. The facelifted Nexon EV is likely to be sold in Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR) versions, corresponding to the current Prime and Max variants.

Tata Nexon EV facelift: what to expect?

The new naming strategy will bring the Nexon EV in line with the Tiago EV, which also gets two battery and range options. The Nexon EV facelift’s Medium Range (MR) variant will come in two trims, while the Long Range (LR) variant will come in three trims.

Now we have already reported to you with variant details of petrol and diesel versions of the Nexon facelift. The Nexon EV facelift will also follow a similar trim nomenclature, which means there could be four core trims on offer – Smart, Pure, Creative and Fearless – although the exact split between the MR and LR versions is currently unknown. These trims are also expected to get optional packages, which will be denoted by a ‘+’ suffix.

The Nexon and Nexon EV are expected to get an identical equipment list. Therefore, the top-spec Nexon EV Long Range Fearless+ (corresponding to the current XZ+ Lux) trim will come fully-loaded with features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a full-digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, touch-based climate controls, leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, and more.

Tata Nexon EV facelift: no mechanical changes expected

The upcoming Nexon EV facelift is expected to remain mechanically unchanged. That means the Nexon EV MR will continue with the 30.2kWh battery that has an ARAI-certified range of 312km. The Nexon EV LR, meanwhile, will get the larger, 40.5kWh battery with a range of 453km (MIDC). The latter will also have two charging options – a 3.3kW or a 7.2kW AC charger.

The Nexon EV MR and LR will continue to use a permanent magnet synchronous motor – the MR will have outputs of 129hp and 245Nm of torque, while the LR will have outputs of 143hp and 250Nm.

As far as rivals are concerned, the Nexon EV facelift will continue to rival the recently updated Mahindra XUV400 EV, which is its only direct rival in this segment. Prices will see a step up given all the feature and design upgrades the facelifted model will carry.
