Tata Motors launched the CNG version of its Altroz premium hatchback back in May. Dubbed the Altroz iCNG, it is priced from Rs 7.55 lakh up to Rs 10.55 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Read on to know what the claimed fuel efficiency number for the Altroz CNG is.

    1. Altroz CNG powered by 77hp, 1.2-litre engine
    2. Claimed to do 26.2km/kg

Tata Altroz CNG powertrain and fuel efficiency

The Altroz CNG is powered by a 1.2-litre engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In petrol mode, it makes 88hp and 115Nm, whereas in the CNG mode, it produces 77hp and 103Nm. In comparison, its direct rivals – Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG and Toyota Glanza CNG – make a similar 77hp but make only 98.5Nm in their CNG modes.

As for fuel efficiency, the Tata Altroz CNG is claimed to do 26.2km/kg (ARAI). However, in comparison, its chief rivals – the Baleno CNG and Glanza CNG – have a significantly higher claimed fuel efficiency of 30.61km/kg. Do note though, the efficiency of all these models in the real world will be different than these claimed figures.

    Tata Altroz CNG: more details

The Altroz is the first CNG-powered hatchback to offer a sunroof, and it also debuted Tata Motors’ patented dual-cylinder set-up for CNG tanks. As a result of the unique set-up, the Altroz still has a usable 210 litres of boot space, although that’s 135 litres less than the standard Altroz's 345-litre boot. Furthermore, unlike its rivals, the Altroz can start directly in CNG mode. Currently, the Tata Altroz CNG is available in six variants - XE, XM+, XM+ (S), XZ, XZ+ (S) and XZ+ O (S).

Don't understand Citroen India strategy.. they should have planned for automatic version launch along with Manual transmission. If someone wants to buy this car as a second car for them, such folks will certainly look for an automatic version as a choice. Citreon will loose such customers to likes of Kia and Hyundai who offer at least IMT on their basic model cars.
