Skoda Kylaq gets 5-star Bharat NCAP rating

In BNCAP crash tests, the Kylaq has scored higher than all its ICE-powered compact SUV rivals like the Nexon and XUV 3XO.

The Skoda Kylaq has achieved a 5-star rating in both adult and child occupant protection in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program’s (BNCAP) safety tests. The Kylaq scored 30.88 out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 in child occupant protection (COP), making it the best-performing ICE-powered sub-four-metre SUV in BNCAP crash tests so far.

BNCAP tested the top-spec Kylaq Prestige variant equipped with a manual gearbox, but the ratings are applicable for the entire Kylaq line-up, which also includes the Classic, Signature and Signature+ variants. Other than the entry-level Classic, all other trims get an automatic transmission option.

The Skoda Kylaq scored 30.88 points out of 32 in AOP. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it scored 15.04 out of 16 points. As per the report, the protection offered to the driver’s head, neck and right leg region was good; it was adequate for the chest area. For the front passenger, protection was good for the head, neck, chest area and legs. In the side movable deformable barrier test, it secured 15.84 out of 16, showing good protection to the head and lower back area while managing an adequate rating for the upper back. It also got a “good” rating in the side pole impact test.

In terms of COP, the Kylaq got 45 out of 49 points. It got full marks in the dynamic test (24/24) and CRS installation assessment (12/12). Its vehicle assessment score is 9 out of 13. Both the 18-month-old and the 3-year-old child dummies were tested in rearward-facing child seats. 

Skoda Kylaq safety features

As standard, the Skoda Kylaq comes equipped with six airbags, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, Electronic Stability Control and ISOFIX anchors for rear outboard seats. It also complies with AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms. Unlike higher variants of the Mahindra XUV 3XO, the Kylaq does not come with ADAS tech in any trim.
