Renault has disclosed the ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of the Triber compact MPV’s new turbo-petrol manual version. Despite the added power of the turbo-petrol engine, its ARAI mileage is higher than that of the MPV’s naturally aspirated petrol manual powertrain.

21kpl ARAI mileage figure is 1.24kpl higher than that of the naturally aspirated petrol MT
The Renault Triber turbo MT claims an ARAI mileage of 21kpl, which, interestingly, is higher than the 19.76kpl figure that the naturally aspirated petrol MT version is rated for. Both engines are 1.0-litre three-cylinder units, but while the naturally aspirated mill makes 72hp and 96Nm, the turbo develops 100hp and 180Nm – an increase of 28hp and 84Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard fit for both engines, with the naturally aspirated one additionally offering a 5-speed AMT. A CVT automatic will be available for the Triber turbo at a later date.
While the Triber turbo MT offers a higher ARAI mileage than the naturally aspirated petrol MT, expect the former to deliver lower fuel efficiency in real-world driving. Turbo-petrol engines are more sensitive to throttle inputs, and in instances of sudden acceleration, their mileage can drop much quicker than in a naturally aspirated motor.

Pricing for the Renault Triber turbo starts at Rs 7.84 lakh and tops off at Rs 8.99 lakh, commanding a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the equivalent naturally aspirated petrol MT version. The turbo-petrol engine is available in every trim level of the Triber barring the base Authentic.
