Maruti S-Cross posts surprising sales figures in October 2017

Strong demand in the Utility vehicles (UV) segment in India has seen a total of 5,19,333 units (up by 16.95 percent) sold from April-October 2017. This accounts for 27.17 percent of the total PVs sold (19,10,782) during same the period.

The UV segment remained buoyant during October 2017 registering cumulative sales of 79,323 units and a growth of 12.44 percent. This means that the segment made up 28.34 percent of total passenger vehicles sold during the month in India.

Maruti’s Vitara Brezza continued to hold the top spot in sales, selling 11,684 units in October 2017 and registering a growth of 16.18 percent over sales last year. The compact SUV contributed almost 50 percent to Maruti’s total UV sales, which also included the Gypsy, Ertiga and S-Cross, selling total of 23,382 units in October 2017 (an increase of 29.84 percent).

Hyundai’s Creta maintained its number two position with sales of 9,248 units, posting a growth of about seven percent in comparison to last year where it posted sales of 8,670 units. However, November might see these numbers dip as the Creta is undercut by the newly launched Renault Captur.

Mahindra’s Bolero and Toyota’s Innova Crysta also managed to keep their third and fourth position on the UV sales chart recording sales of 8,395 units (with a 1 percent growth) and 6,455 units (3 percent growth), respectively.

The Maruti S-Cross came in fifth in the month of October, primarily due to the recently launched facelift. A surprise entry, it dethroned the Ertiga in the top five UV list posting sales of 5,510 units.

The UV sales charts next month is expected to see a few revisions as the Ford EcoSport facelift and Renault’s Captur have been launched in the market recently.
