The Tata Punch EV has been spied out in the open for the first time. The car was spotted on a flatbed and it seems to sport some new features as compared to its ICE sibling.

  1. Tata Punch EV to get disc brakes at the rear
  2. To get a Nexon EV-type drive selector
  3. Punch EV will also get an electronic parking brake

Tata Punch EV exterior and interior details

The test mule of the Tata Punch EV looks similar to the petrol-powered Punch from the outside. However, one notably different feature is the rear disc brakes, and this could make it to the ICE variant in the future. There is no visible slot for the charger, so we expect it to replace the fuel lid, just like on Tata Motors' other EVs.

The Tata Punch is based on the ALFA platform, which does not need significant modifications to switch from an ICE set-up to an electric layout.

Currently, only a single image of the interior is available, but it reveals that the Punch EV gets an electronic parking brake and drive selector from the Nexon EV Max. And while it continues with the same 7-inch touchscreen as the ICE version, Tata Motors could incorporate its new 10.25-inch touchscreen at a later stage.

Tata Punch EV powertrain

In our previous report, we had mentioned that the car will likely use Tata Motors’ Ziptron powertrain, which consists of a liquid-cooled battery with a permanent magnet synchronous motor powering the front wheels. The car closest to the Punch is the Tata Tigor and it is believed that the Punch EV will share the same system, although it is likely to offer multiple battery sizes to appeal to more customers.

Tata Punch EV price, launch

The Tata Punch EV is expected to go into production by June this year and it could be launched around October, during the festive season. The Punch is currently the carmaker's second highest-selling car after the Nexon, with 1,33,819 units sold in FY2023. The Nexon, at 1,72,138 units sold, ranked fifth in overall car sales. The Punch EV is expected to be priced between Rs 9.5 lakh-10.5 lakh.
