Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq

Mahindra has just dropped the first teaser for its upcoming Independence Day event, hinting at a new variant of the BE 6. We’d exclusive reported that the BE 6 will be offered with a new triple screen setup, and this latest teaser confirms the same. Dubbed the BE 6 Sporteq, this new variant will also come with a redesigned dashboard. The car will be revealed in full on August 15.

  1. BE 6 Sporteq to come with a redesigned dashboard, three screens
  2. Two-screen layout to also remain on offer, perhaps on lower trims
  3. No mechanical changes expected

Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq: what to expect?

The biggest update on the BE 6 Sporteq will be on the inside, bringing a triple screen setup as seen on the XUV 7XO and XEV 9S. Mahindra’s dashboard-spanning screens, comprising three 12.3-inch displays for instrumentation and infotainment first debuted on the XEV 9e, and has since been democratised as its currently available even on the base trims of the XUV 7XO and XEV 9S.

The BE 6 currently comes with a dual screen setup as standard, and that will be retained for the lower trims. The triple screen setup is expected to be reserved for just the Sporteq variant which is likely to be positioned as a new top-spec variant. The teaser also hinted at a new tan upholstery for the seats and dashboard.

The other major update is that the BE 6 will get a redesigned dashboard which does away with the halo-like loop that surrounds the driver. While it looks cool, the loop is quite an ergonomic flaw as it does not leave enough space for a second cup holder and makes the wireless charger and USB Type-C ports difficult to access from the passenger side – issues we had noted in our BE 6 review. It’s now expected with a traditional, horizontal dashboard that will be offered across the range.

Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq expected to remain mechanically unchanged

An updated interior aside, the BE 6 Sporteq is expected to remain largely unchanged from the regular car. The teaser doesn’t hint at any exterior cosmetic updates. It remains to be seen if the BE 6 Sporteq is offered with both the 59kWh and 79kWh battery packs, or being a top-spec trim, it’s just offered with the latter. Both versions are powered by a rear electric motor producing up to 286hp and 380Nm of torque; the larger battery is said to return a range of up to 682km on a single charge.

The Mahindra BE 6 is currently priced between Rs 18.90 lakh and Rs 26.90 lakh, ex-showroom. The new Scorteq variant can be expected to come at a slight premium.
