In the lead-up to the launch of the Hyundai Exter on July 10, the company has been drip-feeding new details about the upcoming Tata Punch rival. Hyundai has now officially revealed the rear design of the Exter.

We had already reported on the Exter’s full design when it was spied undisguised in South Korea previously, and the India-spec model remains unchanged from that.

    1. Exter will come with 1.2-litre petrol and CNG powertrain options
    2. Underpinnings shared with Grand i10 Nios, Aura
    3. Will get 6 airbags as standard, a sunroof on higher trims

    Hyundai Exter rear design revealed

The most distinguishing element about the Exter’s rear design is a thick black trim that spans the tail gate and connects the squarish LED tail-lamps at either end. The black contrasting trim gets a textured finish with the Hyundai logo positioned at the centre. And like the LED daytime running lamps at the front, the tail-lamps also have an ‘H’ lighting signature.

The Exter seems quite upright from the rear with a well-sculpted tailgate housing the number plate. Lastly, the rear bumper gets a dual-tone look with black cladding and a very prominent faux silver skid plate. The rear reflectors are also housed very cleanly within the cladding. Hyundai Exter powertrain options

Sharing underpinnings with the Grand i10 Nios and the Aura, the Exter will be offered with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83hp and 114Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options will include a 5-speed manual or an AMT unit. The Exter will also be available in CNG-spec with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

    Hyundai Exter features

Hyundai has not revealed the interior of the Exter yet, but the company has confirmed several features that it will be equipped with. A notable highlight is a dashcam with dual cameras and a 2.31-inch display that we have also seen on the Venue N Line. It will also get 6 airbags as standard and an electric sunroof on higher trims. Other features include ESC, hill assist control, 3-point seat belt and seatbelt reminder for all seats, connected car features keyless entry, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, automatic headlamps and a rear parking camera.

Although the variant-wise features list is not known yet, Hyundai has revealed that the Exter will be available in five trims – EX, S, SX, SX(O) and SX(O) Connect.

    Hyundai Exter bookings and rivals

Bookings for the Exter are already underway for a token amount of Rs 11,000, and our dealer sources tell us deliveries are expected to begin by the end of July. Upon launch, the Exter will be positioned against the likes of the Tata Punch, Citroen C3 and the Maruti Ignis.
