Tata Motors recently gave the Tiago a refresh which made safety features like dual airbags, parking sensors, speed alert and seatbelt warning systems standard across the range. In addition to this, the latest update to the hatchback brings with it a number of other changes including revised prices and a rejigged variant line-up.
The biggest talking point is the launch of the XZA+ variant at Rs 6.15 lakh*, which introduces the AMT auto transmission on the top-spec petrol trim. Earlier, buyers looking for the convenience of an automatic had to settle for the mid-variants which miss out on some highly-sought-after features. Moreover, there is now a new XZ(O) trim, positioned just below the XZ+/XZA+ variants, that is priced at Rs 5.35 lakh* for the petrol-manual and Rs 6.20 lakh* for the diesel. The mid-spec XT/XTA versions are no longer being offered.
Pricing of the 2019 Tiago also sees some revisions. The base XE and lower-mid XM variants now cost Rs 13,000-18,000 more than before. The higher-mid XZ/XZA trims have their asking rates slashed by Rs 21,000-24,000. While the range topping petrol XZ+ remains unaffected, its diesel counterpart gets a price bump of Rs 6,000. There are no mechanical upgrades on the new Tiago. It continues to be powered by an 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 70hp, 1.05-litre diesel motor. In addition to the standard 5-speed manual gearbox, an optional AMT automatic is offered only on the former.
