I want to buy an EV two-wheeler for my daughter after six months for local city usage in Chennai. She will turn 18 years old at that time. I have been using a Honda Unicorn for the past 10 years and am happy with it. I may also use the EV vehicle occasionally once I buy it. Can you suggest which EV vehicle or brand would be the best and most reliable? I have Ather, iQube, and Bajaj Chetak in mind, along with a few other EVs I have seen on the road but am not very familiar with. Or would you suggest going for a petrol vehicle instead? If an EV is not suitable, I am open to buying a petrol vehicle as well.

The options you have shortlisted in the EV space are a great place to start, and if you want a simple, no-nonsense EV, the TVS iQube is one of our top picks in the class. Depending on your daily use case, choose a variant with sufficient battery capacity, keeping some margin for spontaneity and emergencies. If you are still unsure about moving to an electric two-wheeler, in the ICE scooter space, options like the Honda Activa 110 / 125, TVS Jupiter 110 / 125 and Suzuki Access 125 are our top recommendations. These are easy to get on with, lightweight and frugal machines which are practical and reliable to own as well.

Is there any news of a Vespa electric scooter coming to India? I am also waiting for an Ultraviolette electric scooter so that I can exchange my Vespa S125.

No, Vespa currently doesn't retail any electric scooter models in India. The Ultraviolette Tesseract is due to be launched in the first quarter of 2027 and, on paper at least, it has some solid specifications which will force the industry to sit up and take notice. If you want an EV that is classically styled, the Bajaj Chetak is a good option. The original Chetak's design was inspired by the Vespas of yesteryear, and that reminiscence carries forward even today. What helps matters further is that the Chetak is a proven offering from a reputed brand, and it comes in multiple variants to suit different needs. Take a test ride of the Chetak and see if it is up your alley.

I am planning to buy an electric scooter. Among the Hero Vida VX, Ather Rizta, and TVS iQube with similar 3.2 kWh battery packs, which one is the best overall and offers the best value for money?

Purely from a VFM standpoint, the Vida VX2 will have the Ather Rizta and TVS iQube beat because Hero has priced its EVs very well, especially if bought via the BaaS (Battery as a Subscription) model. However, price is just one part of the equation and to properly gauge between these three which would be the best fit for you, we'd recommend a thorough test ride to evaluate comfort, practicality, storage space, performance and whether the feature-set is to your liking or not.

I am interested in buying the Ola S1 X 3 kWh electric scooter. Could you please advise?

We at Autocar do not recommend purchasing any two-wheeler from Ola Electric. Our past experiences with the company's products have found them wanting in multiple aspects, and it is advisable to go with a proven model of a similar spec and budget from reputed, established brands like TVS, Bajaj, Hero (Vida) and Ather.

I am looking to buy an electric scooter. My daily commute is around 100-120 km. I am confused between the Ather Rizta and the TVS iQube ST. I need a comfortable and reliable scooter with good resale value.

Both the Ather Rizta and the TVS iQube ST are comfortable and reliable scooters, so either one would be a sensible choice. Considering your daily commute of 100-120 km, it is worth opting for the larger battery variants of both models. The Ather Rizta has more features and a larger, better-shaped boot that makes it easier to carry everyday items along with the portable charger. The TVS iQube ST, on the other hand, feels more conventional and is one of the easiest electric scooters to get used to, especially for riders switching from a petrol scooter.A test ride of both scooters should make the decision much easier. It is also worth considering the Bajaj Chetak, as it is another strong option in this segment.
