My budget is around ₹10.5 lakh (± ₹50,000). My monthly running is approximately 400 km, and I prefer a petrol car with a city mileage of around 11-14 km/l. I have analysed the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, and Toyota Taisor. I am also expecting good resale value. Please suggest the best option.

Of your shortlisted cars, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx (or its equivalent, the Toyota Taisor) makes the most sense. In your budget of Rs 10-11 lakh, you get a choice of a 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.

While the 1.2 is more than sufficient, we would recommend the Turbo for its additional pep, with little penalty to mileage and running costs. Unless driven with an overly heavy foot, it should easily meet your target of 11-14kpl. Maruti vehicles are also great when it comes to resale value, with some of the best long-term residual values on the market.

The next best bet is the Hyundai Venue, which is more spacious and comfortable, but it won't be as good as the Maruti when it comes to mileage or resale value.

I am looking for an automatic car. It will be driven mostly in Trivandrum city and will do a monthly long drive of 500km. Please suggest a good option between 10-12 lakh, on-road in Trivandrum.

Since most of your driving is in the city, a torque-converter automatic would be a good choice. With that in mind, there are several options in your price range, but the Fronx and the XUV 3XO stand out.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx with the Boosterjet engine offers decent performance and is responsive at low speeds, thanks in part to the mild-hybrid system’s ISG motor, which also helps improve fuel efficiency. The 6-speed Aisin-sourced automatic is very smooth in operation and reliable. Cabin space and overall comfort are good, and highway stability will feel reassuring on your longer trips.
Similarly, the Mahindra XUV 3XO with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine offers good performance and a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic. It offers a spacious and plush cabin that can comfortably accommodate five passengers. The suspension is comfortable and has a robust feel. Before you decide, take a test drive of both cars.

I own a Ford Figo Aspire 2016 petrol model. Please suggest a compact sub-4 metre car as a replacement. My budget is ₹8-9 lakh, and the car will run mostly in the city.

There is a wide range of sub-4m cars available in your budget. We've listed the best city cars for each body style:

1) Hatchbacks: Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza
2) Compact sedans: Maruti Suzuki Dzire
3) Crossover/compact SUV: Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Citroen C3

I am planning to buy the Kia Sonet 1.0-litre turbo petrol HTK(O) DCT. My monthly running will be around 300 km, mostly within Delhi city. However, I have come across several videos mentioning issues with turbo engines and DCT transmissions. This has made me concerned about long-term reliability and suitability for city driving. Alternatively, I am considering the Maruti Suzuki Fronx AMT. Could you please advise whether the Sonet turbo DCT is a good choice for my usage, or if the Fronx AMT would be a better and more reliable option?

For your usage of around 300 km per month, purely in city conditions, it makes more sense to go for a simpler and more fuss-free setup rather than a turbo petrol with a DCT.

The Kia Sonet 1.0 turbo DCT is a good car. But this combination is better suited for higher usage and mixed driving, where you can actually enjoy its performance. In heavy city traffic, especially in Delhi, DCT gearboxes can feel a bit sensitive in slow crawling conditions, and with your low running, you won’t really benefit from what it offers.

In comparison, the Maruti Fronx 1.2 AMT is a simpler and more reliable option for your kind of usage. It is easier to live with in the long run, especially since your running is low and mostly in stop-go traffic. While the AMT is not as smooth as a DCT and performance is modest, it is perfectly adequate for daily city use.

Overall, for your usage, the Fronx AMT is the more practical and stress-free choice. The Sonet turbo DCT makes sense only if you specifically want better performance and are comfortable with a more complex setup.

I am planning to buy a new car and am currently waiting for the new Honda WR-V to be launched. Could you please advise on its expected launch timeline? Also, if there are any good alternatives to the WR-V that meet my requirements, kindly suggest them. My key requirements are: A responsive automatic gearbox Comfortable seats and good ride quality for long drives Good ground clearance Decent mileage

Honda has no plans to launch the WR-V in India, at least not in its current avatar. If a new sub-four-metre SUV is launched, it won't be before 2029, with several other products planned before then, such as the 0 Alpha EV, a new Honda City, a new 7-seat SUV and a new Elevate, as well as some CBUs.

Until then, check out the Maruti Suzuki Fronx (or its sibling, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor), specifically with the 1.0 Boosterjet turbo petrol engine and 6-speed AT gearbox. This powertrain delivers, at once, performance, smoothness and efficiency, giving the best of all worlds.

The Fronx is a sharp-looking compact crossover that's surprisingly practical and well equipped. It's got good ground clearance and a comfortable ride, and space is more than enough too. Plus, being a Maruti, running costs are low, and reliability is rock solid.

I want to buy an automatic car with a ₹12 to ₹14 lakh budget. Engine reliability and performance matter for long-term use. The car will be used on highways as well as in the city. Kindly suggest.

Since long-term use and reliability are your main priorities, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is your best bet. The top Alpha trim with the Boosterjet petrol engine and automatic gearbox fits within your budget and is a smart choice overall. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine offers decent performance, is pleasantly responsive at low speeds, and has minimal turbo lag, thanks in part to the mild-hybrid system’s ISG motor. Fuel efficiency is good, too.
The 6-speed Aisin-sourced automatic is also very smooth in operation and reliable. Cabin space and overall comfort are good, and while the ride quality is firmer than the Baleno, it is not uncomfortable, with stability also being reassuring. Before you decide, do take a detailed test drive.

I am planning to buy the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, but am confused between the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.0-litre turbo 3-cylinder engine. My driving will be around 60% on highways and 40% in the city. Could you please suggest which engine option would be better suited for my usage?

Considering your 60% highway and 40% city usage, we would suggest going for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.0 turbo petrol.

The turbo engine offers much stronger performance, especially on the highway. Overtakes feel quicker and more effortless, which is important for highway driving. It also comes with a proper 6-speed automatic, which is smoother and more refined compared to the AMT offered with the 1.2 engine, making it better suited for both city and highway use.

The 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine, on the other hand, is smoother and simpler, but it feels less powerful, especially on highways. The AMT gearbox is convenient but not as smooth as the automatic offered with the turbo variant.

I am planning to buy the Maruti Suzuki Fronx but am confused between the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.0-litre turbo 3-cylinder engine. My driving will be around 30% in the city and 70% on highways. Could you please suggest which engine option would be better suited for my usage?

Pick the Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.0 Boosterjet Zeta MT - your 70% highway use will benefit from its stronger mid‑range punch (about 147 Nm vs 113 Nm) for safer overtakes and fewer downshifts.

With 70% highway driving, the 1.0 turbo’s extra shove makes a clear difference when going from 60-100 km/h or climbing inclines; it has around 100 PS/147 Nm versus the 1.2’s ~90 PS/113 Nm. That extra ~34 Nm means easier overtakes with 3-4 people on board and a more relaxed cruise. For your 30% city runs, the turbo’s low‑gear pull helps in slow traffic, and the Fronx’s compact size keeps parking simple. If your monthly km is higher, the stronger mid‑range will feel rewarding on every trip.

The one thing you give up is the 1.2’s smoother, quieter 4‑cylinder feel; the 3‑cylinder turbo has a mild thrum at idle and can sound a bit busier when cruising.

If your usage shifts to mostly city (over 60%) or you prefer a calmer, linear engine and a lower upfront price, consider the Fronx 1.2 Zeta MT instead; check with the dealer for current pricing.

On the test drive, in the 1.0 do a 40-80 km/h pull in 3rd gear and then hold 100 km/h; note mid‑range response, engine noise, and whether you need frequent downshifts to maintain pace.

I just sold my Ford Aspire diesel. I am looking to choose between Fronx CNG and Brezza CNG. We are a couple with 2 kids. My run will be 40% city and 60% highway. My preference is a comfortable ride for the family and an easy-to-manoeuvre car between these two. I will wait for the underbody CNG updates in both cars. Which car should we buy? Please assist. Monthly running is 1,200-1,500km.

You can't go wrong with either of the two cars. However, since you are looking at ride quality and drive more on highways, we'd recommend you lean towards the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The ride and handling set-up of the Brezza has an emphasis on a cushioned low-speed ride, and thus, potholes in the city are well absorbed with hardly any harshness. The softer spring, though, means there is some pitch and squat on undulating highways, and since you drive more on the highways, the Fronx would thus be better.
It offers a more stable high-speed ride, and while the ride quality is definitely stiffer than the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, it’s not uncomfortable or jarring. The rear room is also lower than the Brezza, but given that it's your two kids who would sit at the back, the Fronx should not be a problem here, too.

My office is located 10km from my house, with mixed city and highway driving. I am planning to buy a car which is automatic and fuel-efficient. Budget around ₹10 lakh. Could you please suggest a car that will be relevant for up to 15 years?

We would suggest you go for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta+ AMT. The Fronx has a fuel-efficient 1.2-litre engine mated to an AMT gearbox that is well-tuned and smooth enough for daily driving. It is also fairly spacious, offers a large boot and a comfortable ride, which makes it an ideal companion for everyday city commutes and occasional highway drives.
If you want something smaller and easier to manoeuvre, you can consider the Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT. It is a more compact car, which makes it even easier to drive and park in the city. However, the new Swift now comes with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, which feels a bit less powerful compared to the Fronx’s four-cylinder engine. Because of this, the AMT gearbox also works better with the Fronx engine than it does with the Swift.
Within your budget, you can also consider the Hyundai i20 IVT/CVT in the Magna variant. The CVT gearbox is very smooth, which elevates the overall driving experience and makes the car extremely easy to drive in traffic. The interiors of the i20 also feel quite premium. The only downside is that you will have to trade a bit of fuel efficiency for that smoothness, which is something to keep in mind since efficiency is an important factor for you.
