I’m planning to buy a Fronx Sigma, but the 2025 models are out of stock. On the other hand, I’m getting a ₹1.20 lakh discount on a 2025 Toyota Taisor E MT petrol. @Autocar, please suggest which vehicle I should purchase between the Fronx and the Taisor.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have a global partnership which has yielded many shared products. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor are essentially the same car and are even built on the same production line. The differences are down to the badges, a few styling elements and colour options.

The Taisor E is the equivalent to the Fronx Sigma. If you are getting a Rs 1.2 lakh discount on the Taisor, we recommend taking it. It's a very sweet deal.

I am a new driver looking to buy my first car. My initial driving will be in the city, but I also want to take the car on highways and hills eventually. Should I first get a used car to improve my driving for a year or two, or can I directly buy a new one? The Baleno is my choice, but I would love more suggestions. My budget is around ₹10 lakhs.

Yes, if you are very unsure about your driving, then a used car would be better.

You could look at a Maruti Celerio, which is a compact car and has very light controls. The view outside is also good, so getting familiar with driving will be easy in this car.

However, if you think you will get confident pretty soon, then yes, a Maruti Baleno will be just fine, or we would suggest you look at the Fronx. It is essentially based on the Baleno, so you will get the same amount of interior space.

Moreover, you will get the same powertrain but with a lifted body and better ground clearance, which will help you in case your drives to the hills involve some bad roads.

I have started learning to drive and have gained good confidence. I am planning to buy a car with a budget of ₹11-13 lakhs. I have a family of four, and most of my driving will be in the city, with occasional trips outside the city during holidays and weekends. Please suggest a car.

There are plenty of options to choose from, and without knowing your preference for fuel, gearbox, and rear space its a bit hard to pinpoint. However, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx would be a good all-rounder. With your budget, you would get the top trims and thus enjoy more features.

The Fronx is also fairly easy to drive with a compact sub-4-meter length, light enough controls and a slightly elevated seating position that will give you a better view outside.

Moreover, its taller stance offers you a good ground clearance handy for your occasional weekend trips outside the city. As for space rear room is good, as is the boot space too, so for your family of 4, this should do just fine.

Which car should I buy? I am confused between the Toyota Fronx and the Tata Sierra. Should I go with a high-end Fronx model or a base Sierra model within the same budget? I will usually use the car for long journeys, mostly on highways and village roads, and I prefer a manual transmission.

The Tata Sierra is clearly the larger of the two cars and will give you more space than the Maruti Fronx, as well as a better ride, too. However, the base version of the Sierra isn't as well-equipped as the Fronx.

More importantly for you, the versions that fit your budget come with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, which is quite weak in its power delivery and not ideal for you, given that you are mostly driving on highways. Thus, a high variant of the Fronx would suit you better.

I am a first-time car buyer and completely new to driving. I want to purchase a car within a budget of 10–12 lakhs for mostly city driving and occasional long trips. In the future, I may move to a tier 2 or tier 3 city based on my job. Please suggest whether I should purchase a manual or automatic (AMT/CVT/TC/DCT) as my first car, and suitable car models.

If you are a new driver, choosing an automatic transmission will be comfortable and convenient for city driving. Since most of your usage is in urban conditions, you can choose either Maruti Suzuki Fronx Alpha AT or the Hyundai Venue HX6 DCT.

Both are reliable and easy to maintain. Fronx makes more sense if you plan to move to a tier-2 or tier-3 city. Maruti Suzuki has the widest service network and easy availability of spare parts, which adds to long-term peace of mind.

I have a budget of ₹7-8 lakh, and the Nissan Magnite CNG is one of my choices, but I am worried about its resale value. Can I switch to the Maruti Fronx CNG by increasing my budget to ₹9 lakh? However, I am concerned about safety there. Please suggest the best approach.

The Nissan Magnite CNG is available with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is barely adequate to power this car. Furthermore, while running on CNG, performance will be lacklustre, and efficiency will also be low. And as you mentioned, resale value will be poor, hence it is best that you look at other options.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx gets all the basic safety features like ABS with EBD and ESP, which prevent an accident from happening in the first place. Additionally, there are 6 airbags to keep you protected in case of an impact. Do note that the Fronx's petrol engine is much smoother, and overall, it is much nicer to drive.

However, if you want a proven, safe CNG car, go for the Tata Punch or Tata Altroz. While their powertrain isn't as smooth or as good as Maruti's, these are practical and spacious alternatives.

I have a budget of around ₹10-12 lakh and need decent fuel efficiency, as I’m not confident about petrol mileage after fuel blending. My running is on the lower side. Should I consider a Sonet diesel or a Fronx petrol? I would prefer an automatic option with features like proper hill hold control. Please advise.

If you want efficiency, the Kia Sonet diesel is the one to go for. Beyond the cost advantage of running a diesel, the Sonet diesel is actually nicer to drive than the Maruti-Suzuki Fronx petrol.

The Sonet 1.5 diesel offers better performance and works well with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The Fronx is, of course, cheaper, but if you have the budget and want a car with low running costs and want an alternative to petrol, then the Sonet diesel is for you.

I'm looking to buy a car with a budget of 10 lakh. I'm confused about the available options and would appreciate a suggestion for an automatic vehicle with good fuel efficiency. I plan to drive approximately 500 km per month.

Given your requirements, you could consider the Maruti Suzuki Fronx or Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor. Both these share their 1.2-litre petrol engine and 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), which is a smooth, refined, and efficient powertrain.
If you are open to a sedan, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire 1.2-litre petrol-AMT is another excellent option, which offers excellent cabin space and even better fuel efficiency.

I am a 50-year-old woman looking for a mini SUV with a budget of up to ₹8.5 lakh. We currently own an XL6 as our family car and are looking for a second car for me. My daily driving is around 10 to 15 km, with occasional highway trips. I want something comfortable and efficient.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a great option because of its refined and efficient engine and smooth gearbox. Alternatively, you could look at the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, which is essentially a rebadged Fronx. The Hyundai Exter is also an option you could consider for its smoothness and overall user-friendliness.

I have been using a Maruti 800 for the last 14 years and want to replace it and buy a new car. My budget is 9 lakh, which car should I purchase?

You should look at the Maruti Suzuki Fronx as a replacement for your Maruti Suzuki 800. It's a stylish car that scores for its smooth and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine. The Fronx is significantly larger than the 800 but is an easy car to live with thanks to light steering, a slick gearbox and smooth clutch. Given that you live in Shopian, the Fronx's ample ground clearance is also something you would appreciate.
