I am planning to buy a new car, and am confused between the Tata Nexon Creative+ and the Mahindra 3XO AX5 variant, both petrol and manual transmission. Can you please advise me on this, as I am pretty confused?

The Mahindra XUV 3XO stands out for its more responsive and enjoyable petrol engine, which makes it nicer to drive in both city and highway conditions. It also feels more modern overall in terms of driving experience. In addition, the 3XO is a wider car, which, along with its longer wheelbase, makes it a more comfortable proper 5-seater, especially for three passengers in the rear.
Ride quality is also comfortable and well-balanced, so it handles bad roads and daily driving duties without any issues. The main drawback of the 3XO is its smaller boot, which is something to keep in mind depending on your usage, and this is where the Tata Nexon, with a larger boot, has an advantage.

Dear Autocar Team, I am currently using a Tata Altroz XT Petrol (2022). Due to my height (6.2 feet), I am required to push the driver's seat to its maximum extent, which results in restricted visibility on the right side while driving. I am now planning to purchase a new car, and after comparing options such as Nexon, XUV 3XO, and Hyundai Venue, I have shortlisted the Kia Sonet HTK(O) Diesel (Manual), as it appears to offer good value for money. However, I have some concerns regarding rear seat space and overall driving comfort for my height. In this regard, I request your expert advice on whether this would be a suitable choice, or if there are better alternatives available within an on-road budget of ₹12 lakhs. My usage is predominantly city driving (around 70%), with occasional highway travel (approximately 30%). Most of the time I drive alone, and occasionally with my wife. While the Kia Sonet Diesel HTK (O) is a good value-for-money car, it may not be the best choice for your height. At 6.2 feet, you will likely have to push the seat all the way back, just like in your Tata Altroz. In that position, the Sonet’s cabin can feel a bit tight, and visibility issues may still persist. Also, once the driver's seat is pushed fully back, the rear seat space becomes quite limited, which may not be ideal even for occasional use.
Instead, we would suggest looking at the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel. It offers a wider cabin and more driver space, which will make a noticeable difference for your height. Even with the seat pushed all the way back, there is still usable space in the rear, making it a more practical choice overall. The wide cabin also makes it a genuine 5-seater, unlike many compact SUVs.
The diesel engine is punchy and enjoyable to drive, and it works well for both city and highway usage. It feels strong in the mid-range, which makes overtaking easier and driving more effortless. The only real drawback is the boot space, which is on the smaller side compared to rivals, especially for larger luggage . If you frequently travel with a lot of bags, this is something you should keep in mind.

I am planning to buy a new car this month. I am a first-time buyer and a new driver. I am confused between the Tata Nexon Creative Petrol AMT and the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 AT. I will use the car to go to my hometown once in a while, from Bangalore to Warangal and very few times for office commute. I am a bit budget-oriented, and my budget is ₹13 lakh. I am preferring to buy the Tata Nexon Creative Petrol AMT due to the following reasons: it is within budget, and a 360-degree camera is available in this version compared to the 3XO AX5. But my worry is whether the AMT in the Nexon has any problems while driving. What do you suggest? In case AMT is not advisable, then I will go for the 3XO AX5 by stretching my budget.

If you are a first-time driver, the type of automatic gearbox matters a lot, and this is where the difference between these two cars becomes important. The Tata Nexon AMT is not problematic as such, but it is a basic automatic. You will feel gear shifts, slight pauses and head-nod movement, especially in stop-and-go traffic and during overtakes. It works fine if you are on a strict budget, but it is not the smoothest or most refined experience, and over time, you may start noticing these traits more.
On the other hand, the Mahindra XUV 3XO A5X automatic comes with a proper torque converter gearbox, which is much smoother, more natural to drive and easier for a new driver. In city traffic as well as on your occasional Bangalore to Warangal highway drives, it will feel more effortless and confidence-inspiring.
Yes, the Nexon gives you the 360-degree camera and fits better within your budget, but that is more of a convenience feature. The gearbox affects your driving experience every single day, and that is where the 3XO is clearly better.
If you can stretch your budget, go for the XUV 3XO A5X automatic. The smoother gearbox will make a bigger difference to your daily driving than the extra features in the Nexon.

Planning to buy a Mahindra 3XO AX5 petrol automatic model. This variant only comes with a reverse camera. Can I get side cameras (blind spot camera) installed during delivery as an accessory?

To add a 360-degree camera to your Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 petrol automatic model, you will need a touchscreen which is compatible with it. Aftermarket cameras aren't likely to be a simple plug-and-play add-on to your OEM screen. Opting for an aftermarket fitment, screen, or camera will certainly void your factory warranty. If you don't mind losing your standard warranty coverage, you can opt for a 360-degree camera with a new aftermarket touchscreen.

I am planning to buy a new automatic car with a budget of around ₹12 lakh. My driving will be mostly in the city, with occasional highway trips on weekends. I would prefer a car with a peppy engine and good safety. I currently own a Kia Sonet iMT, so I would prefer suggestions from brands other than Kia.

The Mahindra XUV3XO will meet your requirements of a car with a peppy engine and good safety. The petrol automatic comes paired with a torque convertor gearbox, which is the smoothest autobox around. Since your driving is mostly in the city, you will really appreciate this. 

We would recommend the 1.2 litre MPFi turbo engine, which would offer you more than enough pep and a slightly better mileage than the direct injection unit. Though bear in mind that on the whole, mileage will still be lower than something like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, as Mahindra tunes all its engines for a peppy feel. 

If mileage isn't a priority and you simply want a very peppy and lively drive feel, opt for the direct injection unit. The 3XO will also meet your requirements for safety as it comes well equipped with 6 airbags and ESP as standard, and it has secured a 5-star rating in the BNCAP crash tests

I am confused about whether to buy the 3XO or the Nexon. I need a reliable car with good engine performance.

We would suggest you go for the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 1.2 TGDi, preferably with the 6-speed automatic. Given your priorities of reliability and strong engine performance, it is the most satisfying car to drive. The big highlight is the 1.2-litre TGDi turbo-petrol engine that produces 130hp and 230Nm of torque, which is among the strongest outputs in this segment. In comparison, the petrol engine in the Tata Nexon produces around 120hp and 170Nm. That’s roughly 35% more torque in the Mahindra, and you can feel it in everyday driving, especially in the mid-range where overtakes happen. The 3XO simply feels punchier and more effortless when you press the throttle.
If you are considering an automatic, the Mahindra again has an advantage. The 3XO uses a 6-speed torque-converter automatic (from Aisin), which tends to be smoother and more durable in heavy traffic and hot conditions, the kind we typically experience in India.
The Nexon petrol automatic, on the other hand, uses a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCA). While dual-clutch gearboxes can shift quickly, they can also feel jerky at low speeds and tend to be less tolerant of stop-and-go traffic over the long term.
Another point in favour of the 3XO is that this mStallion turbo petrol engine family has been around for several years, so it’s relatively well understood in the market. Mahindra also offers a 3-year/1,00,000km warranty, which can typically be extended up to 5 or even 7 years, giving additional peace of mind. You should confirm the exact coverage and extension options with the dealer.
The main compromise with the 3XO is practicality. Its boot is smaller than the Nexon’s, roughly 360 litres versus about 380 litres in the Nexon. So, if you regularly travel with large luggage, you may have to plan a bit more carefully.

I am a first-time car buyer and also a new driver. I am planning to buy a car for long-term ownership with a budget of around ₹11–12 lakh (on-road). Also, are there any other better options in this price range that I should consider?

First, a small correction. The Mahindra XUV 3XO does not use an AMT gearbox. It comes with a proper torque converter automatic, which offers a much smoother and more refined driving experience compared to AMTs. This makes it easier to drive in city traffic and overall more comfortable for daily use.

Because of this, the XUV 3XO MX2 Pro automatic becomes the better choice between the two cars you shortlisted. The wider cabin also makes it more comfortable for a family of five and the ride quality is well suited for both city drives and occasional highway trips.

The Tata Nexon does offer a DCA/DCT automatic option with the turbo-petrol engine, but that variant is significantly more expensive and would go well beyond your ₹11–12 lakh budget. The Nexon AMT variants therefore do not match the smoothness of the torque converter automatic offered in the 3XO.

For your requirements of ease of driving, comfort and a better automatic gearbox, the Mahindra XUV 3XO automatic would be the better option over the Nexon in your budget.

I am confused between the Hyundai Venue SX(O) Petrol 1.0-litre Turbo Automatic (DCT), Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 Petrol 1.2-litre Turbo Automatic (Torque Converter), and Hyundai Venue SX(O) Diesel 1.5-litre Automatic (Torque Converter). Which of these would be better in terms of hassle-free ownership, reliability, and long-term peace of mind? If your priority is long-term reliability and hassle-free ownership, the powertrain choice and brand service experience will matter more than outright performance.

Between the three options, the Hyundai Venue petrol turbo with the DCT automatic is the safer choice in terms of ownership experience. Hi everyone, I’m planning to buy a compact SUV automatic for city driving in Delhi NCR with occasional highway trips. I’m confused between the Mahindra XUV 3XO TGDi AT and the Skoda Kylaq Signature+ AT. My priorities are: smooth automatic for traffic, good ride comfort for NCR roads, reliable ownership and reasonable maintenance, and decent mileage. Would love to hear feedback from owners or experts on which would be the better long-term choice.

Go for the Skoda Kylaq Signature+ AT. In Delhi traffic, it's automatic is very smooth, and the ride is mature on broken roads, and although not as supple as the Mahindra XUV 3XO, it is not a sore point. The 6-speed torque converter is known to be reliable and futureproof, as most torque converters are.
For your stop‑and-go NCR commute, the Kylaq's calibration makes creeping and low‑speed shifts feel natural, reducing head‑nod in queues. You’ll also appreciate the 446‑litre boot on occasional highway trips. Ownership is predictable with 15,000 km/1‑year service intervals, and you can add an extended warranty (up to 6 years; confirm coverage in your city). Expect roughly 9kpl in Delhi traffic and 13kpl on relaxed highway runs at 90-100kph.
The one thing you give up is the XUV 3XO TGDi’s stronger low‑end punch and overall power; the Kylaq AT feels calmer off the line and asks for kickdown for quick overtakes.
If you prioritise a punchier engine and more rear seat space, consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 TGDi AT instead, but if that is not a high priority, the Kylaq is more enjoyable to drive.
