Mahindra Thar OG key specifications

The Mahindra Thar OG has three engine options on offer. There’s a 119hp, 300Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual that comes with RWD, a 152hp, 330Nm, 2.2-litre diesel paired with either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox and offering RWD and 4x4 configurations. There's also a 162hp, 330Nm, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mated with either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox offering RWD and 4x4 configurations.

Mahindra Thar OG specifications

VariantZXT 2.2 Diesel AT 4WD

The 2026 Mahindra Thar OG engine options comprise 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, and 2.2-litre diesel.

A 6-speed manual is offered only with the 1.5 diesel in RWD guise. The 2.2 diesel and 2.0 turbo-petrol offer a 6-speed automatic in RWD guise. 4x4 variants of the 2.2 diesel and 2.0 turbo-petrol are available with both manual and automatic gearboxes.

The Thar is underpinned by Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform; it gets a rear Pentalink suspension with a Watts Link, frequency-dependent suspension (FDD). There’s also an electronically controlled differential and terrain modes to help with off-roading.

Safety features on top-spec trims include all-wheel disc brakes, six airbags, TPMS, tyre direction monitoring system, front parking sensors, and rear view camera. Other safety features include ABD and EBD, hill hold and descent control, traction control, ISOFIX mounts, and an airbag deactivation switch.
