We are a family of four (two children - one aged 3 years and the other an infant). Please suggest a good car within a budget of ₹10 lakh (can extend up to ₹11 lakh). Our usage will be 90 % city and 10 % long drives/highways. Our priorities are good safety, easy maintenance, essential features, and reasonable mileage (which can be compromised a bit if other criteria are met). I was considering the Honda Amaze (CVT), but I’m open to suggestions, including hatchbacks or compact SUVs. Please suggest good automatic options (1st preference CVT or eCVT, and if not available, AMT or others).

You're on the right track with the Honda Amaze CVT. For a small family like yours, it's the right size of vehicle - compact enough for city use and spacious enough for four. Plus, for your occasional highway drives, it feels quite surefooted and even gets ADAS features on the top-spec version that should take some of the stress out of highway driving.

It has also achieved a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating, and it comes with most essential features that you might want.

I currently own a Maruti Ritz VXi petrol MT and am considering buying either the Maruti Brezza AT or the Honda Amaze CVT. Which one should I go for? My budget is Rs 15 lakh.

While the Honda Amaze CVT is an excellent car, since your budget goes all the way up to Rs 15 lakh, we would recommend stretching to the superior Maruti Brezza AT.
For one, you've already lived with a Maruti, and are thus already integrated into the aftersales and service network. You could even seek out a loyalty bonus from your local dealer. That aside, the Brezza is a larger, more spacious vehicle with a larger and more powerful engine. And while the Honda's CVT is smooth, the Brezza's 6-speed torque converter AT is smoother still, although fuel economy isn't quite as good as a result.
That said, if you can wait a little while, a facelift of the Brezza is expected in the coming months, which should offer even more creature comforts.

Hi Autocar India team, I am planning to upgrade from my 2017 Maruti Suzuki Celerio automatic, which I currently use for about 7,000 km per year. I will mostly drive on highways, and I require a vehicle with a strictly automatic transmission and cruise control as a must-have feature. My budget is ₹11-₹11.5 lakh (all-inclusive). I am currently considering the Maruti Suzuki Baleno Alpha AGS and the Honda Amaze ZX CVT. Could you please advise which of these two automatic options would be better suited to my needs, particularly in terms of: Highway driving comfort and stability Transmission performance and responsiveness Fuel efficiency Feature set and overall value Long-term reliability and ownership costs Thank you.

The Honda Amaze ZX CVT is the one we'd recommend for you. It's got the smoother gearbox, which has a big bearing on your overall highway experience. Further, the Amaze also feels more confident at highway speeds. The Amaze doesn't stand out for tech features, but it packs in all the essentials (touchscreen, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, cruise control, and auto climate control) and more to ensure a comfortable drive.

A key differentiator on the Amaze is ADAS, which adds a layer of protection, especially on highway drives. Also, Honda's CVT is reliable. In general, the Amaze is a hassle-free car.

Where the Amaze trails the Maruti Baleno is in fuel economy. The Baleno's AMT ekes out a better real-world economy than the Amaze's CVT. Even so, as a package, the Amaze is the one for you.

Is it possible to customise the 2024 Amaze with all the new 2026 model features, like 6 airbags, ADAS, 360-degree camera, rear AC, etc.?

No fitting things like airbags and ADAS are a very complex affair. It isn't like fitting a music system or a new horn. To work properly or even at all, these systems need deep integration with the electronics and the mechanical systems, which is nearly impossible to retrofit. If you would like these new features, your only real option would be to sell your Amaze and buy one that has these features.

I am a 44-year-old male with a right leg disc issue. My budget is Rs 10 to 12 lakh, and my height is 5 feet 10 inches. I will be driving mostly in the city. Please advise whether I should buy an automatic or a manual car.

Given your right leg disc issue and predominantly city driving, an automatic car is strongly recommended. It will significantly reduce strain on your leg and make daily driving far more comfortable.
Within a Rs 10 to 12 lakh budget, look for cars with a smooth, relaxed automatic and easy ingress. The Honda Amaze CVT is one of the most comfortable city cars. The CVT is smooth, the driving position is relaxed and running costs are low. It is especially easy to live with in stop-start traffic.
At similar money you can also consider the Skoda Kylaq automatic, which has been introduced in the new mid Classic Plus variant. It is really well priced at under Rs 11 lakh on-road and doesn’t stint on features. You get a premium kit such as a sunroof, automatic wipers, cruise control and steering-mounted controls. Being an SUV, ingress and egress are easy, and overall, the Kiyaq is a comfortable, easy car to drive in city conditions.

Hi Autocar Team, I am Neel. I am buying my first car and need suggestions for a non-AMT automatic car with an on-road budget of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh. My priorities are safety, mileage and features like a 360-degree camera and cruise control. Kindly provide your suggestions.

For the 10 lakh band, you can look at either the Tata Altroz or Honda Amaze. Altroz gets a torque converter automatic and will be around 10 lakhs on road. It also gets the features you are looking for. Honda Amaze gets a CVT and will fit in your budget, but misses out on 360 degree camera. Both of these cars have secured a 5-star safety rating.
For the 14 lakh, you can choose the Tata Nexon, the Petrol Creative DCT variant, which also gets most of the features you want.

I want to purchase a new automatic car for city driving with a budget of around ₹15 lakh. Please suggest suitable options.

Since you currently have a Maruti Suzuki Baleno, we would suggest you upgrade to something like the Honda Amaze or the Skoda Kylaq. Both cars come in under 4 meters in length and so are better suited to crowded city conditions.

The Amaze's CVT automatic gearbox is smoother than many AMTs that come at this price point. Especially when driven at low, constantly changing speeds in the city and being a sedan. It will feel like an upgrade and offer you more boot space, too, should that be a requirement for you.

If you don't like the idea of a sedan, you can opt for the Skoda Kylaq, which will offer you a higher seating point and better ground clearance. Also, the automatic gearbox on the Kylaq is a torque convertor, which is the smoothest autobox around.

I am planning to buy my first car with a budget of up to ₹10 lakh, although I can stretch it slightly if required. My preferences are an automatic transmission, long-term reliability, less-gimmicky features, and a decent level of safety. I am currently confused between the Honda Amaze and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Are there any other options I should consider?

Both the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Honda Amaze are worth considering as they come with proper automatic transmissions rather than AMTs. The Amaze is the more cost effective option. Its 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine has adequate performance for city use, and the CVT transmission is smooth and refined.

The Brezza, on the other hand, feels better to drive thanks to its larger 1.5 litre petrol engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, the most affordable automatic Brezza is available only in the VXI variant, which costs close to Rs 13 lakh on road, putting it well above your stated budget.

A more affordable alternative is the Skoda Kylaq in the Signature variant, priced at around Rs 12 lakh on road. The Kylaq is engaging to drive, and its 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic offers smooth performance with enough power for both city and highway driving.

If you want to stay well within a Rs 10 lakh budget, the Hyundai i20 is also a strong option. It is powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine and comes with a smooth CVT transmission, making it suitable for daily urban use.

I want to buy a sedan car with a budget of ₹10 lakh. Which car will be better in terms of mileage, power, and a smoother ride?

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the most complete sedan that you can get within Rs 10 lakh. It packs in quite a few features, and cabin space is impressive, though rear headroom could be an issue for tall passengers.

What also works in the Dzire's favour is its peppy and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine. Good ride comfort rounds off the package.

If you are looking for an automatic sedan within Rs 10 lakh and you value smooth gearshifts, consider the Honda Amaze CVT. The CVT gearbox is much smoother than the Dzire's AMT.
