Volkswagen Tiguan facelift to launch in festive season

The Volkswagen Tiguan is all set to be re-introduced in our market in the upcoming festive season after over a year’s absence (since its discontinuation in April 2020). VW already revealed the India-spec Tiguan facelift earlier this year, with some cosmetic updates as well as new features. The new Tiguan will see a market launch after the introduction of the Taigun mid-size SUV.

    • The Volkswagen Tiguan facelift will sport minor cosmetic updates
    • It will use the 190hp, 2.0 TSI engine and get all-wheel drive as standard
    • It will also get an updated features list and slightly tweaked interior

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift: what’s new?

In terms of design, the Tiguan facelift still sports a smart and squared off style, though it now gets a sharper LED Matrix headlight design that tapers towards the end, a tweaked grille, revised front bumper with triangular-shaped fog light clusters and the new 18-inch alloy wheels. From the rear, the Tiguan looks almost identical to the Tiguan Allspace.

The interiors of the facelifted Tiguan are similar in design and layout to the Allspace, with the only major change being the touchscreen interface for the climate control system, that replaces the buttons and knobs.

Equipment levels on the Tiguan facelift will be good as it will come with features like six airbags, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, connected car tech, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, leather seats and ambient lighting.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift: engine and gearbox

Powering the Tiguan facelift will be the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine that is good for 190hp and 320Nm (same unit as in the Tiguan Allspace). Gearbox duties will be carried out by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit, and VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system will also come as standard fit.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift: rivals and expected price

VW is expected to price the new Tiguan facelift in the range of Rs 26 - 29 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the five-seat Tiguan facelift will compete with the other premium monocoque SUVs, such as the Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass – both of which also get a diesel engine option.
