Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has revealed a one-off Taigun pickup truck concept as part of a student project under the company's Skill India initiative. This is the second one-off project prepared, following the Skoda Rapid convertible last year.

  2. Some parts are 3D printed
  3. 2018 VW Tarok pickup previewed a production-ready model

For this year, the students have developed a pickup iteration of the Taigun SUV. The brand says it was built using parts from both the Taigun and the Virtus. Both models are based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 IN platform.

The nine-month-long project was developed in various phases, from car concept finalisation to ideas collection, market analysis, research and development, procurement, packaging, and final car testing. Some parts used in the project were 3D printed.

The project Taigun pickup gets specialised accessories such as underbody protection, studded tyres, ambient lighting, and special roof-mounted lights, completing its rugged pickup truck look. The overall vehicle has also been raised, giving it an imposing stance.

While the Taigun pickup won't see production, Volkswagen hinted at a Taigun-based pickup truck back in 2018 called the Volkswagen Tarok, which debuted at the Sao Paulo auto show. Monocoque pickup trucks like the Tarok are popular in South America and South Africa. The Tarok was designed to replace the previous-generation Polo-based Volkswagen Saveiro, which was discontinued in 2023.
