Tata is set to finally launch the Altroz Racer in India next month. The sportier version of the Altroz hatchback has been showcased twice before: once at last year’s Auto Expo and a second time at this year's Bharat Mobility Show with slightly different looks.

    1. Altroz Racer to get Nexon's 120hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine
    2. Will likely be the hatchback's new flagship variant
    3. Rivals Hyundai i20 N Line

    Tata Altroz Racer: new engine

The Altroz Racer will get the same 120hp, 170Nm, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as the Nexon; 10hp and 30Nm higher than the Altroz iTurbo. The Racer will likely be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission only.

Tata Altroz Racer: exterior, interior and features

The Altroz Racer will get a dual-tone paint scheme along with twin racing stripes on the bonnet and roof. It will also feature ‘Racer’ badging on the front fenders, a slightly revised grille and new alloy wheels. On the inside, the hatchback is expected to offer new leatherette upholstery with contrast stitching and coloured accents on the dashboard.

The equipment list will include a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, segment-first ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, a heads-up display and a voice-assisted sunroof. These features will also be carried over to the regular Altroz at a later stage. The Racer line-up will also get six airbags and ESC as standard.

Tata Altroz Racer: expected price, rivals

Pricing for the Tata Altroz iTurbo ranges between Rs 9.20 lakh-10.10 lakh, but given the Altroz Racer's flagship positioning, it will likely be priced between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12.52 lakh. It will rival the Hyundai i20 N Line and also compete with the turbo-petrol variants of the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Taisor, depending on the pricing.
