The Skoda Kushaq crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone last month, nearly five years after its launch on June 28, 2021. The SUV has also recorded exports of over 4,500 units so far. The first model under Skoda’s India 2.0 programme, which focuses on highly localised models, the Kushaq was developed specifically for the Indian market and is also the Czech carmaker’s first production model based on the MQB-A0-IN platform. The first-generation Kushaq received a facelift in March 2026.

In FY2022, the Kushaq sold 21,427 units, accounting for 98.05 percent of Skoda India’s SUV sales; the next bestselling SUV in that period was the Kodiaq, with 381 units. Notably, FY2023 remains the Kushaq’s best year so far, with an 18 percent year-over-year (YoY) increase to 25,300 units, comprising 94 percent of Skoda India’s total SUV sales of 27,005 units that year.

Sales declined for the first time in FY2024, dropping 7.53 percent year-on-year to 23,396 units. The downward trend continued in FY2025, when sales fell 26 percent to 17,363 units. FY2026 saw the Kushaq record its lowest annual sales at 10,191 units, down 41 percent year-on-year. As a result, its share of Skoda India's SUV sales fell to 17 percent, down from 92.53 percent in FY2024.

Skoda Kushaq powertrains and rivals

The Kushaq is offered with two direct injection turbo-petrol engine choices: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit. The 1.0 TSI engine produces 115hp and 178Nm and can be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed torque-converter automatic. The new 8AT replaced the earlier 6AT with the facelift. Whereas, the 1.5 TSI mill develops 150hp and 250Nm and is available solely with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Rivals include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Victoris, Toyota Hyryder, Tata Sierra, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor and Honda Elevate.

Good - Rs 20/litre cheaper than E20 is a big advantage
Bad - it should have been priced even lower
