Tata Sierra EV teased with AWD ahead of June 30

Tata Motors has released another teaser of the Sierra EV ahead of its debut on June 30, this time revealing a Harrier EV-like AWD setup (QWD in brand speak). In the flagship EV, front and rear electric motors enable AWD, and a similar arrangement will be offered on the Sierra EV. The teaser also supports our earlier report in which the carmaker's chief commercial officer, Vivek Srivatsa, confirmed that an AWD system was under development for the SUV. He had also stated that the ICE-powered Sierra will receive an AWD option in 2027.

  1. Sierra EV is expected to use Tata's acti.ev+ architecture
  2. It may offer 65kWh and 75kWh battery options, similar to the Harrier EV
  3. AWD could be reserved for the larger battery

Tata Sierra EV: What to expect?

Powertrain

The Sierra EV could be underpinned by Tata's acti.ev+ architecture and carry over the electric Harrier's 65kWh and 75kWh battery pack options. All-wheel drive, though, may be offered just with the larger battery. Peak motor outputs and charging times remain undisclosed at the moment.

Exterior

In the latest teaser video, we also noticed that the design for the EV's diamond-cut alloy wheels is identical to its ICE sibling. They are likely to measure 19 inches and be available on top trims. The EV will retain the upright, boxy silhouette and feature connected LED headlamps and tail-lamps, thick B-pillars and the blacked-out rear glass element, mimicking the curved rear glass section of the 1991 Sierra. But unlike the ICE model which has a functional black grille, the EV will get a body-coloured sealed-off unit.

Interior

The similarities are expected to continue inside the cabin as well. Higher variants are likely to get a triple-screen setup comprising a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger display. Lower variants could feature a dual-screen layout and a head-up display (HUD).

Other expected features include a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, a premium audio system and multiple drive modes.

Price and rivals

The Sierra EV will be positioned between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in Tata's EV portfolio. Expected to be priced in the Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) range, it'll take on the likes of the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Maruti e Vitara and Toyota Ebella.
