Update: New Maruti Swift India launch in May

Maruti Suzuki
’s next big launch for India, the all-new Swift, is set to arrive in the coming months. Internally codenamed YED, the next-gen Swift is expected to be more feature-laden than its predecessor.

  1. Next-gen Swift to feature evolutionary styling updates
  2. To get new features and safety tech
  3. Launch in coming months

Next-gen Maruti Swift: interior, features, safety

The upcoming new-gen Swift has already made its debut in Japan and Europe, giving us an idea of the India-spec model’s equipment list. The interior seems similar to newer Maruti Suzuki cars in India like the Baleno, Fronx and Brezza.

Next-gen Maruti Swift to get bigger touchscreen, six airbags

The global-spec Swift gets LED headlights and tail-lights, LED DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable wing mirrors, auto headlamps, a free-standing 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more.

The safety suite on the foreign-spec Swift consists of six airbags, tyre pressure monitor, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability program, hill hold control as well as ADAS features like lane keeping assist, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and prevention, and more.

Apart from the few features that are already present on the Swift in India, we expect Maruti to incorporate the rest on the next-gen version of the hatchback in order to bring it in line with other models from the company. However, ADAS safety tech will likely be given a miss.

Next-gen Maruti Swift: design, platform

The visual changes on the new-gen Swift are more evolutionary than revolutionary, and though the design philosophy remains unchanged, the styling is more sharper and modern-looking.

The new Swift is 15mm longer, 40mm narrower and 30mm taller than the existing model, but the wheelbase remains the same at 2,450mm. While the company is calling it a fourth-generation model, the new-gen Swift is based on the same Heartect platform.

Next-gen Maruti Swift: launch, expected price

While Maruti Suzuki is yet to reveal an official launch date for the next-gen Swift, it is expected to be launched in a few months’ time. The launch will be followed by the new-gen Dzire some time later.

That said, the new Swift will likely be pricier than the model it replaces given all the changes and the new features. For reference, the Maruti Swift is currently priced from Rs 5.99 lakh-9.03 lakh (ex-showroom). It will retain its rivalry with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago, among other similarly priced hatchbacks.
