Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch a new generation of the popular Dzire compact sedan around this festive season. Fresh spy shots confirm the Dzire gets a completly different front fascia and it won't resemble the Swift anymore, alteast in terms of exterior appearance.

  1. New Dzire to have its own design identity
  2. Expected to get segment-first electric sunroof
  3. Will take on the next-gen Amaze that's due later this year

New Maruti Dzire to get upmarket looks

The Dzire will share many parts with the recently launched Swift, but it will be further differentiated from the hatchback compared to its predecessors. It will have new headlamps, grille and front bumper designs that differ from the Swift's. The headlamps will be more rectangular and slightly larger than those on the Swift. Higher variants will come equipped with multibeam LEDs, while lower trims may have a standard halogen setup. Projector headlamps, now standard across all Swift variants, are also expected in the new Dzire.

Previous spy shots revealed a refreshed rear design featuring new tail-lamps that extend upwards. The license plate will remain positioned on the tailgate, just like the outgoing model.

The cabin will have a lot in common with the new Swift, however, lighter colours are expected to be used to make the cabin feel airy. The 9-inch free-standing touchscreen, new HVAC controls, restyled dashboard and the analogue instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch digital MID are expected to be retained. It will also offer a segment-first electric sunroof.

New Maruti Dzire will get new Z-series engine

The new Dzire will have the same Z12E engine, which debuted on the new Swift, replacing the K12 unit. This 1.2-litre, three-cylinder NA petrol engine produces 82hp and 112Nm of peak torque, and will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox along with an optional 5-speed AMT. It aims to match the Swift as the most fuel-efficient car in its segment.

At launch, the Dzire will be available with the petrol powertrain only. However, a CNG option will be added later. It will continue to compete against the Hyundai Aura, Honda Amaze and Tata Tigor.
