  • Second Kia Sonet teaser focuses on front styling
  • Production-spec Sonet to carry similar design cues as the concept
  • Expected to come with multiple engine-gearbox options

Kia Motors India has released a second teaser of its upcoming Sonet SUV,which will see a world premiere on August 7, 2020.  The new teaser shows the model's front design, which more or less stays close to the concept. In production guise, the Kia Sonet will come with an aggressive ‘Tiger Nose’grille and chunky front bumpers.

While this new teaser focuses on the front design, Kia had revealed the SUV's rear styling a few days ago.

The Kia Sonet concept that was showcased at Auto Expo 2020was clearly quite close to production, as some minor details have changed. The tail-lights are similar wraparound units with LED elements inside – the upper half contains the stop lamp while the lower bit has indicators and reverse lamp. The tail-lights are connected by a thin reflector strip, which replaces the LED light bar seen on the concept. Below this sits the Kia logo. What seems to be a sharply raked rear windscreen flows well into the boot area and continues on to the sides, giving it a large glasshouse.

Other details that are visible in the teaser of the production-spec Kia Sonet include roof-rails, a roof-mounted lip spoiler, a rear wiper and a rear-set antenna.

The Kia Sonet is entering a fiercely competitive segment and it’s expected to have the specifications to match. Segment-leading kit is likely to include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Kia’s UVO in-car connectivity tech, a premium Bose sound system and a sunroof.

When it arrives in September, the Kia Sonet’s prices are expected to be in the Rs 7-12 lakh (ex-showroom) bracket. There’ll be a number of engine-gearbox options on offer – a 1.2-litre petrol-manual; a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with manual and dual-clutch auto options; and a 1.5-litre diesel with manual and torque-convertor automatic options. In fact, there’ll also be a clutchless manual option (iMT) with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine – this technology is set to make its debut on the Sonet’s rival and sibling, the Hyundai Venue, this month.

Further details will be revealed in the coming days, as more teasers emerge. Stay tuned.
