We are told that the Jimny will be displayed in a phased manner and each showroom will have the SUV on display for one or two days initially.

Series production for the Jimny 5-door is expected to begin in April 2023, though market launch and price announcement are still some time away.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny production, delivery details

Maruti Suzuki will manufacture the Jimny 5-door at its Gurugram plant for domestic and export markets. The brand has plans to produce around one lakh units a year; around 7,000 units every month are expected to be earmarked for the domestic market, with the rest being for exports.

Deliveries for the Jimny are expected to commence by late May in India and sources tell us that the top-tier Jimny Alpha will see priority in the production sequence, thanks to high demand.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny powertrain, off-road gear

Maruti Suzuki’s tried-and-tested 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine powers the Jimny, producing 105hp and 134Nm of peak torque. Gearbox choices include either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque-converter automatic. It gets Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes. The Jimny is also underpinned by a rugged ladder-frame chassis.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny variants, features

The Jimny is available in just two trims – Zeta and Alpha – where the latter gets the bells and whistles, including auto headlamps, SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system and Arkamys sound system. However, Maruti Suzuki is offering safety features like six airbags and hill-hold assist as standard. You can read a detailed breakdown of features here.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny estimated price, launch date

Maruti is expected to price the Jimny in the region of Rs 12 lakh and it is likely to go on sale in May 2023. While at launch it will have no direct rivals, Mahindra and Force are also developing 5-door versions of the Thar and Gurkha and both SUVs will cater to a similar customer base as the Jimny 5-door.
