Mahindra’s all-electric SUV coupe, the XUV.e9, has been spied testing overseas, revealing details about its interiors and design. Expected to launch in April 2025, the Mahindra XUV.e9 will sit above the XUV.e8 SUV in the brand’s EV line-up that will be based on the INGLO architecture.

  1. XUV.e9 interior spy shot shows massive screen dominating dash
  2. Will retain SUV-coupe body shell as seen in the concept
  3. Higher variants to get 80kWh battery; 435km to 450km of range

Mahindra XUV.e9 interior highlights

The interior spy shots of the 5-seat SUV-coupe show that it has a layout that is quite similar to the XUV.e8. The XUV.e9 also sports a screen that stretches from pillar to pillar – there are three 1920x720p high-resolution 12.3-inch displays mounted in that panel. A two-spoke flat-bottomed steering can be seen, along with two dials – likely to alter drive modes and AWD modes – and a gear shift lever on the centre console. Trapezoidal central air-con vents sit below the screen and above what seem to be knobs for the climate control system, while the square-ish side AC vents mark the edge of the massive screen.

Expect the features list on the most expensive version to include an HUD with augmented navigation, vehicle-to-load (V2L) function to power external electrical devices, and Level 2 Autonomous Driving.

While the test mule spied wears heavy camouflage, a few details can be seen. The closed-off grille area is obvious, marking it as an EV, though it also seems like there’s a slot above the grille for a full-width LED band. Although the mule has halogen headlights, expect LED units on the production version.

At the rear, the raked roofline (again indicating that this is the XUV.e9) flows into what seems like a large rear spoiler. Based on the concept revealed in August last year, that bit will house the tail-lights and an LED light band as well. The flush door handles from the concept can also be seen on the test car.

Mahindra XUV.e9 range, battery

Mahindra had confirmed earlier that the XUV.e9 will share its battery pack and motor options with the XUV.e8, which is scheduled to arrive in the market next year. Expect the range-topping version to get an 80kWh battery powering two motors – one of each axle, so simulating AWD. Expect power outputs to range between 230hp and 350hp. Mahindra claims that the battery pack should allow for a range of 435-450km, under WLTP testing norms.

Mahindra XUV.e9 price and rivals

Considering Mahindra is working with BYD for the development of the batteries for its own localised EVs, it’ll be interesting to see how aggressively the XUV.e9 will be priced. When it arrives, the EV SUV-coupe will sit above the XUV.e8 SUV in Mahindra’s EV line-up and, as such, is not expected to have any direct rivals.
