The Mahindra XEV 9e has been given a 5-star rating in the latest round of Bharat NCAP's crash tests. The all-electric SUV was awarded a full 32 out of 32 points for Adult Occupancy Protection (AOP) and 45/49 points for Child Occupancy Protection (COP).

  1. Mahindra XEV 9e is the first model to get full marks in AOP in BNCAP
  2. Protection for dummies found to be ‘good’ in all aspects
  3. XEV 9e scored 24/24, 12/12 and 9/13 in COP tests

Mahindra XEV 9e variants and safety

While the model tested by Bharat NCAP is the top-spec Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Three with the larger 79kWh battery, the 5-star rating is applicable to all four variants. Mahindra had revealed prices for the base XEV 9e Pack One (Rs 21.90 lakh) last year, and of the top-spec Pack Three (Rs 30.50 lakh) recently. But it is yet to announce prices for the Pack Two 59kWh and Pack Three 59kWh.

Protection for the driver and front passenger dummies was rated ‘good’ across all parameters, from head and chest to the pelvis and legs. The XEV 9e was also given a ‘good’ rating in the side pole impact test.

Coming to the XEV 9e’s COP scores, the born-electric SUV scored 24/24 in the dynamic test, 12/12 in the CRS installation assessment and 9/13 on vehicle assessment. This led to a commendable score of 45 out of 49 points. The 18-month-old and the 3-year-old child dummies were tested in rearward-facing child seats.

Mahindra XEV 9e safety features

While the entry-level Pack One comes with 6 airbags, ISOFIX anchors, rear disc brakes, a rear camera, tyre pressure monitor, driver drowsiness detection system, and auto headlights and wipers, the top-spec gets safety kit such as 7 airbags, a Level 2 ADAS suite that includes a self-parking function, a 360-degree camera and blind spot monitoring.

Interestingly, the XEV 9e has received marginally higher scores than the brand’s other born-EV, the Mahindra BE 6, although even that has received a 5-star rating from BNCAP.
