BYD has launched the Sealion 7 electric SUV in India at Rs 48.9 lakh for the base Premium variant, going up to Rs 54.9 lakh for the top-spec Performance trim. BYD debuted the SUV at Auto Expo 2025 and began accepting bookings for the Sealion 7 on the same day. Deliveries of the first 70 units of the Sealion 7 will commence on March 7.

  1. Design of Sealion 7 is similar to Seal sedan
  2. Only two variants on offer with identical features and battery packs
  3. Output much higher in Performance trim; Premium offers better range

Here's a variant-wise price breakdown for the Sealion 7:

The overall proportions of the Sealion 7 resemble a crossover more than an SUV, solidified further by its sloping roofline and the same Ocean-X design language as the Seal electric sedan. The Sealion 7 is peppered with X-shaped elements all around, most prominently in the front bumper, headlights and tail-lamps, which resemble the Seal's. The Sealion 7 gets 19-inch alloy wheels in the Premium variant and 20 inchers in the range-topping Performance variant.

It is available in four colours: Atlantis Grey, Aurora White, Cosmos Black and Shark Grey.

Similarities with the Seal are visible in the Sealion 7's dashboard layout and steering wheel, too. A 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage in the cabin, which has most of the functions and controls. The electric SUV also offers ventilated front seats, connected car tech, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, a floating digital instrument cluster, panoramic glass roof with a sunshade, 50W wireless phone charger, heads-up-display, powered tailgate and vehicle-to-load (V2L) function. The features are the same on the Premium and Performance variants.

The SUV has a 520-litre boot, which can open up to 1,789 litres when the rear seats are folded down. Since it's an EV, the Sealion 7 also has a 58-litre frunk. Coming to safety, the Sealion 7 includes 11 airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a host of ADAS features like blind spot detection, forward collision warning, intelligent cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and more.

Both variants of the Sealion 7 get the same 82.56kWh LFP low-voltage battery pack, but there's a large variance in their outputs and performance. In the Premium variant, the Sealion 7 channels 313hp and 380Nm through its rear wheels, allowing the SUV to despatch the 0-100kph run in 6.7 seconds with a WLTP-claimed range of 482km.

The Performance variant should appeal more to spirited buyers thanks to its 530hp and 690Nm output, helping it sprint to 100kph from rest in 4.5 seconds. This trim gets all-wheel drive, too, but takes a slight hit to its WLTP-claimed range, which stands at 456km.

Going by its body style and price point, the Sealion 7's closest rival is the Volvo C40 Recharge. If we solely look at the price point, the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 can also be considered as the Sealion 7's competitors.

 All prices ex-showroom, India.
