So far the Superb’s massive boot has swallowed everything we’ve thrown at it, but it finally met its match.

When there’s luggage to be hauled, the Superb is the current go-to car. Its cavernous 625-litre boot takes in a lot; it’s managed my Goa holiday luggage, bags, gift boxes, sports, fishing gear and all. And it also easily swallowed Hormazd and Renuka’s massive bags for a week-long trip to Israel.

Three oversized ski bags and four cabin suitcases really challenged the Superb.

So naturally, when my cousin from Australia called saying she and her family were coming to visit – with massively large bags – it was the Superb I took. This time, however, it finally met its match. To be fair, they did warn me they had three oversized ski bags and four carry-on suitcases. Still, I was confident. But try as much as we did, one of the ski bags had to travel inside the cabin on the rear passenger’s lap. It’s insane how that boot still managed to pack all that in, and technically, we did manage five folks plus the entire luggage all ‘inside’ the car.

Handy front seat button to adjust rear legroom.

The Superb also impressed everyone with the room inside. My cousin’s husband is well over 6 feet tall, and is accustomed to sitting at the front, but with the Superb’s enormous rear legroom he was super happy at the rear, as was his daughter, who rarely gets to ride up front.

It’s clearly the car for space and comfort, and whenever anyone at Autocar needs either, the Superb is always the pick.
