Hero MotoCorp Xtreme 160R
The Hero Xtreme 160R is a sporty street motorcycle powered by a 163.2cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder, two-valve engine paired with a 5-speed gearbox. It uses a tubular underbone diamond-type frame, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting and an inverted LCD instrument console. The motorcycle also gets a USB charger, a drag timer and a wide rear tyre. Its telescopic front fork and seven-step adjustable rear monoshock are designed for everyday road use.
The Xtreme 160R produces 14.8hp at 8,500rpm and 14Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. Its 790mm seat height, 139.5kg kerb weight and 167mm ground clearance make it reasonably manageable for urban riding. The 12-litre fuel tank and ARAI-certified mileage of 49.65kpl also make it suitable for daily commuting. Its single-channel ABS provides additional braking assistance, while the sporty styling and performance-oriented features distinguish it from more basic commuter motorcycles.
Who should buy the Xtreme 160R?
The specifications and features point to a few buyer types this motorcycle suits best.
Buyer type | Why it fits |
City Commuter | At 139.5kg kerb weight and with a 790mm seat height, Xtreme 160R is reasonably manageable in traffic. Its compact street-bike proportions and adjustable rear suspension are useful for everyday urban riding. |
Mileage Buyer | The Xtreme 160R has an ARAI-certified mileage of 49.65kpl, according to our specifications data. Its 12-litre fuel tank reduces the need for frequent fuel stops, although actual mileage depends on riding conditions. |
First-Time Buyer | The 14.8hp engine, 790mm seat height and manageable kerb weight make it worth considering for riders moving up from a smaller commuter. Its sporty performance may require some adjustment for inexperienced riders. |
Value-for-Money Buyer | It combines a 163.2cc engine, LED lighting, alloy wheels, an inverted LCD console and single-channel ABS. Buyers should compare the prices of the available variants before deciding which equipment is worth paying for. |
Tech Buyer | The inverted LCD console, USB charger, LED lighting and drag timer add useful equipment. However, buyers looking for advanced smartphone connectivity or extensive electronic riding aids should check the equipment offered on the exact variant. |
The bike is less suited to riders who prioritise maximum fuel economy, a basic low-cost commuter or a more relaxed motorcycle for long-distance touring. Its sporty styling and performance-oriented setup will appeal more to riders who want a motorcycle for daily use with a more engaging character.

Finish can improve
7.0
The Hero Xtreme 160R stands out with its sharp and modern styling, giving it a sporty look that is different from most motorcycles in its segment. The muscular fuel tank, LED lighting and compact proportions help it attract attention on the road. While the overall design is impressive, the quality of some parts could have been better. The switchgear feels acceptable, but certain panels and finishes do not match the high standards set by some of its rivals. Overall, the motorcycle offers a fresh design with a few compromises in finish quality.
8.0
The Xtreme 160R provides a comfortable and upright riding position that suits daily commuting as well as occasional long rides. The well-padded single-piece seat offers good support, while the light weight and compact dimensions make the motorcycle easy to manage in traffic. The ergonomics feel natural, allowing riders to spend long hours in the saddle without feeling tired. Its comfortable riding position also makes it friendly for new riders.
8.0
The 163cc engine is tuned more for smooth everyday performance than outright speed. It delivers good low- and mid-range performance, making the bike quick and responsive in city traffic. The engine is tractable enough to ride in higher gears at lower speeds, reducing the need for frequent gear shifts. However, performance starts to fade at higher speeds, and the motorcycle lacks the strong top-end performance offered by some rivals. Fuel efficiency is one of its strengths, returning around 44.1kpl in the city and 52.3kpl on the highway, making it an economical motorcycle for daily use.
8.0
Handling is one of the Xtreme 160R's strongest points. Its low weight and well-balanced chassis make it easy to ride through traffic and enjoyable on twisty roads. The suspension provides a comfortable ride over rough roads while maintaining good stability during cornering. The motorcycle feels agile and confidence-inspiring, making it equally suitable for city commutes and spirited weekend rides.
8.0
The Xtreme 160R comes with LED lighting, hazard lamps and a digital instrument cluster that displays all the essential information. However, the instrument console is quite basic compared to some competitors. Safety features include single-channel ABS, which provides added confidence during braking.
7.0
The Xtreme 160R is a value for money bike. While its top-end performance, instrumentation and finish quality could have been better, these shortcomings do not take away from its overall appeal. The review concludes that the Xtreme 160R is a stylish, practical and fun everyday motorcycle, especially for riders looking for an affordable and fuel-efficient 160cc bike.

Questions you may find useful
How does the Triumph T4 2026 old-stock model (400cc engine) compare to the Gixxer 250SF? I am planning to upgrade from Xtreme 160R. My total usage in the metro in-city.
The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 is due to undergo a generation change later this year, and we'd advise you not to buy the current model, as that will be phased out soon, and the next-gen model will likely bring in many meaningful updates to this aged platform.Coming to the Triumph Speed T4 (400cc version), this is an accomplished city bike, and if you can find one, we'd recommend you jump on that because now all single-cylinder Triumphs in India are 350cc. Coming from the XTreme 160R, this will be a comprehensive upgrade, although lower fuel economy will be one trade-off.
I currently ride a Bajaj Discover 125 and am now looking to upgrade to a 150cc motorcycle that is cost-effective and offers good fuel efficiency. My daily commute is around 35-40km. Please advise.
In the 150-160cc commuter space, the most affordable option currently is the Hero Xtreme 160R, priced at Rs 1.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Bikes like the base Yamaha FZ, Honda Unicorn and lower variants of the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V are available for roughly Rs 10,000-12,000 more. All of these bikes are quite fuel-efficient and can return upwards of 45-50kpl, if ridden sensibly. We'd recommend a test ride of these bikes to see which one suits you best.
