For years, the Tata Harrier was exclusively a diesel SUV, but that has now changed with the introduction of the brand's new turbo-petrol engine option, the same unit that debuted on the Sierra. The Tata SUV's petrol version also gets some additional features over its diesel counterpart. Keep reading to find out the key differences between the Tata Harrier petrol and diesel models.

With the addition of a petrol engine option, the Harrier Smart base variant now starts at Rs 12.89 lakh, which is Rs 1.11 lakh lower than the diesel equivalent. The top-spec Fearless Ultra variant is exclusive to the petrol Harrier, while the one below Fearless X+ trim is available with both engine options; the price gap between the Fearless Ultra petrol AT and the Fearless X+ diesel AT is just Rs 40,000.

Tata's 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine delivers 170hp and 280Nm in the Harrier SUV. While the 2-litre, 4-cylinder, diesel mill produces an identical peak power output, torque is 70Nm more at 350Nm. Six-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmission options are offered with both engines, which send the drive to the front wheels only.

While there are no exterior differences between the two SUVs, Tata offers a new Nitro Crimson exterior paint shade exclusively with the Harrier petrol. 

Harrier interior

The Fearless Ultra trim, available only in the petrol Harrier, features a 14.5-inch QLED touchscreen, while the top-spec diesel versions offer a 12.3-inch unit. Both SUVs get a 10-speaker JBL audio system; however, Dolby Atmos is available only on the petrol version, elevating the audio experience. The feature upgrades also include a 65W USB Type-C fast charging port from the 45W unit on the diesel variants. Additionally, it gets a new white and brown interior theme, digital interior rearview mirror (IRVM), front and rear dashcams, and washers for the front and rear cameras.
