    MG Windsor features and variants

The MG Windsor is a spacious, crossover-styled EV with unique and comfortable lounge seats. It is very well-equipped, too, and has an easy-going character with relaxed driving manners. With ex-showroom prices ranging between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 17.49 lakh, it is currently the bestselling EV in India. The Windsor is also available with MG’s BaaS program which allows a customer to purchase it at a lower upfront initial cost (excluding battery cost) and pay for the battery on a pay-per-usage model. Let’s take a close look at the variants, what features you get with each trim, and at what price.

    MG Windsor variants explained

    Two battery pack options

The Windsor is available with two battery pack options – a 38kWh unit and a 52.9kWh unit. Both versions come with a front axle-mounted electric motor that produces 136hp and 200Nm of torque. The smaller battery has an ARAI-claimed range of 332km, while the larger one returns 449km on a single charge. The Windsor EV is available in four trims – Excite, Exclusive, Essence and Essence Pro – the first three come with the 38kWh battery, and the 52.9kWh battery is exclusive to the top Pro trim.

    Charging options

As standard, the Excite and Exclusive trims come with a 3.3kW AC charger, while the Essence and Essence Pro can be had with a faster 7.4kW AC charger. MG claims a charging time of 7 hours (10-100 percent) for the 38kWh battery using a 7.4kW AC charger, while the 52.9kWh battery takes 9.5 hours for the same. The larger battery can be fast-charged at up to 60kW, while the smaller battery can be topped up at up to 45kW.

MG Windsor: which variant should you buy?

If your usage is going to be just within city confines, then the Windsor with the smaller 38kWh battery is just fine. The Windsor EV achieved a 308km real world range and an 8.1km/kWh average battery efficiency figure in our testing, and that should be sufficient for a week-long city use on a single charge. And with the smaller battery, the mid-spec Exclusive trim is fantastic value for money, offering most of the niceties you’d want. However, if you have some highway use, then the larger battery makes greater sense. The safety net of the ADAS suite is an added advantage. For its price, the Windsor’s direct competitors are the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.
